One of the best things about living on-campus smile.gif

zomg i'm envious!

i just switched from DSL back to cable, but it doesn't seem nearly as fast as the cable i used to have last year at college. i wondered how fast that one was. it wasn't a school connection though.

wish i'd known about this site a month ago when i had DSL... i bet those numbers would be SUPER low. i had like the slowest connection ever. i chose the cheapest package to save money and i thought i'd be okay with it, but... surfing the web back then was kinda... excruciating. i'd rather shell out the cash.

i'm guessing the smaller the latency the better?

laugh.gif wonder if anyone with FiOS will post their speeds... and if anyone using the internet in korea. laugh.gif

I'm sure no one can beat my connection! biggrin.gif

I'd KILL for those speeds! T_T;

Anyway, this is like the cheapest broadband I can get in my area! XD (around 900 pesos. less than 20 bucks)

But still, tears.gif T___T;

Well the universities are mostly on some form of fibre optics... though our rooms lead to twisted pair connections, like normal.
I am the minority here.

FYI...

Coax can easily push what Ferizon Fios currently offers. The current speed barriers/limitations of non-fiber optic internet has nothing to do with the medium but rather a business decision. The only reason Verizon is expanding it's Fios service is to expand it's fiber optic network for the distant future. Docsis 3 can easily push 150,000 kb/s over current coax cable lines. Once Fios becomes more widespread, you can expect all the Cable competitors to offer similar speeds. They already do in areas where Fios has become highly available.

Generally speaking, copper wires can sustain 10 gig throughput just as well as fiber can for short distances. The real world advantage of fiber over copper today is simply distance which is why fiber is used for wan and backbone connections.

Haven't tried it yet. I don't live in residence so I have a bandwidth limit, which I don't want to use up @_@
