i found a really expensive ipod video 80GB
i feel bad for the owner so i went to apple.ca to see if the product was registered or not
and it wasn't o_o

does apple like keep a track of who bought what? so if i go to the apple store, can they find out the owner of the ipod even if they didn't register it?

Nope, I don't think there's any way to trace it back to it's owner...
I'd suggest you hand it over to the police or something 'cos they have a lost & found section, but most of the stuff there never gets claimed.
Of course, you can... just keep it... ^^;

If you want to return it you can email itunes and see if the owner bought some songs. they can probably track it from there. Although you can just keep it too.

where did you find it?

school? gym? if it's somewhere in a building, ask the receptionist or the lost and found. Someone must have reported it.

^ I agree. It rare that someone would return a lost apple. Even friends are evil enough to steal them if you leave it around (yeah it's really true).

Best thing to do what bunny suggested or try to email apple and track it down although it'll be hard.

^ people who could afford to buy new gadets over and over again never really care to keep track of their serial number or register their products. Or if you couldn't really bother, like me. You can post a flyer up around where you found it and have people respond to you by email, ya know. There are greedy liars out there, but ask them what the colour of the ipod is or what songs/videos is on it to make sure that it is their's.
