It's time for me to buy a car!
I've narrowed my choice down to the Nissan Altima.
It looks good and the price sounds reasonable.

Now I need you guys to tell me its pros/cons, it's gas mileage, RELIABILITY, etc.

P.S. My other back-up choices are the Nissan Maxima (it's supposedly better, but it's more expensive) and the Honda Accord.

Thanks a lot~

There is a thread for advice on buying cars... pinned in the section here.

You could tell us more information about the Nissan, like the model year, etc

which model are you getting? 2.5 or 3.5?

if you're concerned with fuel economy,
then i recommend getting the 2.5

but if you want power, the 3.5 will do it.

in terms of reliability, nissan cars are generally well-built.
and the 3.5 uses the VQ engine, the same engine used in infiniti's as well.
it's a pretty darn good one.

i actually got the 3.5 SE last week,
but because this car is better than
the mitsubishi galant and suzuki i used to drive around before,
i can't find too many flaws right now sweatingbullets.gif

but i recommend you checking out couple of nissan forums
and fully decide for yourself if this is the right car for you.

I got to try a 2.5 Altima recently and I liked it. It had good throttle response and was kind of peppy, just simply fun to drive compared to some other cars its class.

If you get the automatic transmission, I think they use CVT transmissions and it's very smooth. If you mash on the throttle to accelerate, it doesn't jerk much and I think it has 6 gear settings if you want to drive in manual shift mode.

I can't tell you much else because I only drove it for about 30 minutes but I would probably buy this car if I was looking for something in its category. I haven't driven any other cars like this though, so I couldn't compare with others.

my friend has a 3.5 i believe, but his was pretty much gone. he heard some noise in the engine, took it to the dealership and they told him the piston ring is pretty much dead. now he's on his 3rd altima. (no modifications other than 17" chrome rims)

Stick with just talking about the Altima and this thread will stay open.

My friend was saying how the optional V6 really helped Altima sales with the previous genernation, and continuing on into the current generation.

He also said the moment the Civic gets a V6, sales will go up even higher than they already are.

I don't think Honda would ever put anything more than 4 cylinders in the Civic.

It would outrage people more than it would appeal to see something like a V6 in the Civic.

Honda will never give Civics a v6 option just cause of their fuel-economic ideal
im also planning to cop a 07 altima

I heard the Altima gets problematic, though. Does anyone know what these problems are?

hm, so far there are no recalls for the altima, although nissan's ikey might reprogram itself when a phone is next to it.
there's been really a few incidents about that.

i heard nissan's paint isn't too great either.

but other than that, the engine has a great reputation and personally, i have no problems so far.
