From that point on, I did my own oil changes, coolant flushes, transmission flushes (yes, a real flush), and all other maintanance (except for brakes). When does come to a repair that is simply out of my ability (such as a headgasket, AC system, etc), then i'd leave it to a top notch my car brand specific indy to do the work, and I supply all the parts and specify exactly what needs to be repaired.

Our family goes to a close friend's shop so we're good ...
And yeah ... some places don't seem trustworthy at all ...

These mickey mouse characters who call themselves "lube techs" either don't know what they're doing because they just need a job or are just simply careless because it's not their car that they're working on.

If you don't know how you're friends probably know, if not they probably have friends that know friends that know friends and so on.

When it comes to automotive work, I'm hesitant to want to do the work for someone else unless maybe if it's a close friend. But in this case, I would rather teach someone and have them learn to do this on their own rather than have me do the work all the time.
I rarely get approached to do such work, but most of my friends don't like to get underneath their cars and few have siblings who do the maintenance work at their home; others just let the service shops do the work for them. I do get questions every once in a while and I have no problems giving them the answers and advice.
If it's someone who has a task that needs a helping hand, ie clutch job, brake bleeding, differential mounting, engine swap, etc. I wouldn't have much of a problem since I'm helping rather than doing all the work.

I guess I'm just getting kinda annoyed by the fact that everyone is asking if i can do an oil change for them.
I mean getting paid to do it is nice, But in all honesty
Whats so hard about taking off the oil cap, jacking up the car, taking off the oil plug & oil filter, drain oil, and put it all together again?
I dunno, maybe i'm just getting sick of doing oil changes, who knows.
Sorry for ranting

I too try to do all the basic maintenance stuff myself, but I am concerned about my family and friends getting ripped off. I think I should tell them to try and mark or take a picture of the oil filter so that after an oil change, they can check to make sure it is a new one. I tell my mom and sister to check the oil level after oil changes because I know they don't always do things right.

I sometimes feel lazy about doing my own oil changes so when it comes to do someone elses oil, I'm already feeling uneasy.
Aside from just the doing the task, a lot of people don't like to have to get the proper tools/equipment to do the work and sometimes these people will mickey mouse their way through and sometimes they screw up or the car nearly falls on them because they decide to use the scissor jack to support the car rather than use safety stands.
I think we pretty much feel the same about working on someone elses car. I just feel that if I was doing oil changes for the world, I better be employed to do it.

i'm taking my chances and saying that it's not worth taking in your car when the chance of someone scamming you in some way is pretty high and common. unless you have no intention on learning how your car works, or you just dont have time, then i would highly say you should just avoid those places.

So I've never heard of EZ Lube. Where are these places located?

They're a Southern California chain of stores. They span from Bakersfield and San Bernardino County, to Riverside, to Los Angeles and Orange County all the way down to San Diego. They also have one store in Arizona now.

I always decline the additional stuff they claim where something is wrong or is low on.
Oh and I would never bring my BMW M3 to EZ Lube.
