Knowing the issue with dubbing in anime - You know some people like it ('don't like subtitles') or not ('has to be in original language with subtitle') or no preference...

In anycase, back to anime - for me, I think American english dubbing is pretty decent. And I like Chinese dubbing for the most part (or maybe I just like the sound of it). Then there is Japanese anime (well most of anime comes from Japan), for the most part it's fine as it is (or maybe one gets really used to it?).

But for anyone familiar with the Korean language - dubbing of Japanese anime is .
Some characters are hits others are miss. I guess - if an anime is going to be dubbed, shouldn't it sound as close as possible to the original voice? Isn't that the point of dubbing - to get a voice actor to do it in the native language for the audience, as if the original voice actor can speak that language?

What do other people who know the Korean language think about Korean dubbed anime in general (note: this excludes any original korean animation) ? Do people like it?
I tell myself I just need to get used to it, but there are times it's like 'noooo'...

Or feel free to chime in if you got something to say about dubbing in general in any other language... ^^V

Ohh I dunno bout korean dubbing
cuz I dun speak korean.

But I prefer english dubbing over subtitles (u know how many people will kill me for saying that)
but subtitles are good too.

I just find it more interesting in english cuz that's how I watched anime all my life.

But the spanish dubbing for DBZ is soooo funny lol
I used to watch it on Univision..u know they show it uncut on Univision
the blood and all?? well they did, cuz I don't see it on Univision anymore
and that's a regular broadcast channel and that stuff not appropriate.

yea to tell you the truth i am korean and i hate Korean dubs... they just sound awful. i dunno why its language isn't as i dunno.. flowiee as japanese.
but english dubs are ok... the english dub for BLEACH is awesome.

I like English dubs or subtitles. In the English dubs, the producers/ADR directors try to make the voice fit the character. When I first saw a Korean dubbed anime in Korea, my little cousin was watching Naruto. I was like O.o, it sounded so weird and didn't fit the character at all. I've never seen the anime before, but I knew that it didn't fit the character at all just by watching the little scene.

agreed. i think it was kinda better in ranma 1/2 too. ranma's japanese voice is way too high.

for some reason i think that the korean dubs voices are all the same~
and have no pitch level..... i dunno thats just my opinion...
and i like the english dubs~

i think that a lot of people don't like other dubs except japanese is because they always compare it to the original voices
and believe that a certain voice should match whatever character~

My Korean friend who er, is a bit erm prejudiced towards the Japanese (she likes the language itself thou..), will never watch anime in the original Japanese or in English on TV here.. she'll only watch the Korean dubs so I dunno..

I liked the Canto dub of DBZ xD thou the originals always pwn IMO

As for Korean dubbed anime, I've only see Aria the Animation.
The voices are great, as far as emotion is concerned,
but I find most of the voices are too mature for the character
I remember listening to a korean dub of mermaid melody too.
Hanon's voice sounded too mature for her.

^ Yeah, that's what I notice too. Like here's an example, in Naruto, Sasuke has a deep voice, which I thought a little odd from the beginning given the age of his character, but in the Korean Naruto, his voice is even deeper
Has anyone seen bits of the Korean Fruits Basket, Yuki's voice . (btw you can find clips on youtube)
And like juhee wrote, yeah dubbing voices all sound similar.

^ That's one thing I don't get - Canto dubbing, or the Mandarin dubbing (at least from what I've seen) they do a pretty decent job... Maybe it's cause there's a longer tradition of dubbing ....?

Are there any korean idol groups that have made songs (openings or endings) for animes ?? (like the korean dub version or something) or has any idol group member ever voice acted for an anime ?

I haven't watched anime that has been dubbed in Korean, but I have seen a few dubbed in Russian, and they were extremely funny (no offense to Russian soompiers). English-dubbed animes are sometimes okay for me, but like most of you, I prefer Japanese with English subs.

i can't stand anything dubbed.. not even in HK movies when they voiceover the cantonese because they hire a mandarin actor. weird!
but berserk DID do a great job dubbing in english. my only exception.
