with most american horror flicks, the ''bad guy'' is just that, a guy. and all men can die, so that doesn't phase me much...it's just up to the killee to get to the killer first.
asian horror flicks..the ''bad guy'' is more often than not some abstract representation of the killee...so it's up to the killee to get to the root of himself..before he kills himself..or others
i hope i'm making sense...i feel like i'm talking in circles..

Jhorror has much more of those physchology stuff like ghosts and unexplainable scariness lol.
it freaks me out a lot more..
for American horror, it is mostly the sound effects that scare you and the gory.

American horror is made to please uneducated ppl that want cheap thrills and special effects
in other words, a MAJORLY dumbed down version of asian horror lol

Ju-On freaked me out it almost scared the black off of me

scar me as well.

But I think the creepy sound effect affects me more than the images I saw....
oh ya, further more, they make the ghost appear in somewhere on the places/things which we are very familiar with... such as TV (the ring), below our bed (Ju-On), some are in schools or in bathrooms... I mean, TV, beds and bathrooms are the things/places we are connected to everyday...
Ju-On, The Ring (I don't watch any J-horror movies anymore coz I'm 'traumatized' by these 2 lol >_<) they both have these... eerie and very creepy sound which makes my ears and heart feels super uneasy... and have goosebumps all over...
and furthermore, I know it sound dumb but they really affected me phychologically... haiz.... I noticed that I always imagine a ghost head popped up at the bottom of the cubicle where I am doing my business in public toilets whenever I'm alone...
as for American horror, I like them coz of their suspension, but they didn't have the creepy sound, and just more gore... which I forget easily.. and thus doesn't really affect me.... so its less scary...

American scary movie is basically just the super loud noise out of no where or some gruesome way of toturing or killing.
Asian scary movies like others have said, it connects to ur normal life. Simple objects like TV, restrooms, ects cause us to think that it will happen to us.
Give us that creep X(.
My uncle sleeps through American scary movie and when he watches Ghost Ship (korean) or something like that, he turns off his TV after lik 15 minutes lollll

But as far as scariness, I think I'll go with American, simply because a lot of them revolve around situations that could actually happen to you, or seem more realistic.
Ghost stories intrigue me, but they don't frighten me because I don't believe they could ever happen. Stories about people going to Texas and being tortured and killed and having their skin ripped off and.... yeah. That's rather scary to me.
It's very rare that a movie actually scares me, so for me horror movies that I like can't be based off of whether or not they're scary. I like them based on character and plot and content and whatever else. (:
But just in general, I prefer Asian horror films.

I'm second to that.
Thai horror films pretty scary as well.

A-Horror = they purposely scare you by...killing people with saws and pulling people's heads out...
J-Horror wins by a long shot. I hate watching A-horror for the fact that I don't like watching gory films, but also because it's not as entertaining.

Eh...but The Ring and The Grudge weren't nearly as great as their originals. Well, no...I take that back. I actually preferred The Ring over Ringu. I liked Juon: Grudge 1 over The Grudge but I seriously preferred The Grudge 2 over Juon: Grudge 2 as it was a totally different and better story.

Asian Horror is scarier (not counting Godzilla, if that's a horror)... (wait.. actually Godzilla scared me..)
Aniways.. Asian Horror is scarier, solely because it makes me think and wonder
and all this stuff.. it's phycological.
American movies.. it'a sll gore (like someone above me said).. As long as you stay
away from the person with the knife, then you're safe. Take SCREAM, what was that??
American movie makers have the $$ to make very VISUAL and scary looking
people and scenes.. Asian people dont' have the money, so they make it up by
developing scarier plots and stuff.. (can't explainmyself)

Agreed. American Horror is all about cheap thrills like popping up in the dark and gore. J-Horror is about about the psychological effects of the movie. It's like, "Hm...let's see how many people we can freak out with a month full of nightmares?"
