so a couple of days ago i went fishing blah blah and i was driving home with a bucket of water and the fish in it.. and i stupidly made a sharp turn.. and the water AND fishes spilled everywhere.. not on the seat but below..on the passenger side.. but where your feet goes.. you know where the mat is.. i took out the mat and hosed it down with waterrr.. i thought it would be fine.. but for 2 DAYS noww.. i can still smell this HORRIBLE ODOR.. its unbearable.. i tried almost everything.. whole bottle of febreeze, where ever i go i leave the window open so it would be gone.. AHHHHHHHHH i cant stand the smell.. especially when its gets really hottt.. and when i turn on the AC the smell gets worse.. i dont know what to do anymore.. bleach?carwash? what..

everything i've tried(sprays and stuff) it lasts for a while.. like an hour then it comes back.. AHHHHHHHHH!!!

i dont know any specific "car odor" solutions... but if it were my car on a nice day, i'd leave all my doors open and windows down and let it air out. not sure what your interior is, but mine is cloth, so i'd put baking soda on it and let it sit for a while maybe leave the box in there open to absorb some of the smell, and then vaccum it out. or i guess you could get it professionally cleaned
a lie never lives to be old.

The reason it smells bad is because bacteria is releasing the gases that causes the odor and it seems most of your efforts is really trying to mask the odor. What you have to do is kill the bacteria and I think that means shampooing the carpet. This would be easier if you remove the seats from the car and if the seats are affected, then you would want to clean them as well.

I'm not sure if there are any car care products that will clean the carpet, but if you can't find anything I think you should be able to use carpet cleaning products.

I don't know but, are you sure you didnt leave any fish under the carseat or something? because when my mom went grocery shopping, she brought alot of stuff and...obviously we didnt get everything out and something got left behind, and got shoved under the carseat. It smelled horrible for a week and we found out we left some kinda meat behind sleep.gif

maybe you can get your car cleaned out at the carwash...

She says she emptied a bottle already..... Kill the bacteria and put some charcoal in your car, ya know... like 1/2 burned fire wood. Hey, we put a few logs of it in the room our puppies lived in for a few months (peed and pood all over) and now......... not a whiff of poo!

well, you can't just spray it. scrub with a brush and get into the carpet. looks like you also missed some places.

That happened to me once... but I left the fish in the trunk. Sorry to say... the smell never truly went away. That's why you always use a cooler for your fish from now on haha. Oh and shampooing the carpet doesn't sound like a bad idea. It might help the stench of rotting fish in your car.

Hmm, maybe you can try using a pet odor remover (like dog and cats). use the 8 in 1, others are almost crap and usually just covers the odor. i am copying this from the bottle i bought to remove my dogs pee stinks:

- eliminates stains and ocntact with bio bac enzyme cleaning technology
- neutralizes and destrosy odors

"unique bacteria producing agents work continually to reduce and deodorize stains until they are permanently gone!"

i used "Complete" which was $6 at Target. :] Also try leaving lemon and apple slices. apple to help absorb and lemon to freshen up? good luck!
