I'm not into clubs because I hate skipping lunch just to go to a club meeting. I MUST EAT. LOL.

So now I'm into sports .. I plan to do sports for the rest of my high school career [I'm a sophomore right now]. I plan to do sports during all three seasons. Fall: Tennis or Volleyball. Winter: Soccer. Spring: Softball.
I'm on JV Women Soccer at the moment smile.gif

Does it count? 'Cus it if doesn't ...... what's an alternative? mellow.gif

OH YEAH.

I own an online radio .. does it count as EC? It's not really curricular .. but it's something extraaa LOL. & I own it so like .. lots of ummmmmm leadership?

basically anything you do during high school
is considered extra curricular

even if its not school-related.

case in point:
kendo for me.

Of course it does.

For me, Chun Kuk Do is one of my ECs.

Yes ma'am it counts! But, wow.. that sucks that the club meetings are during your lunches! None of my clubs are like that. They're all after school. The only club that I've heard to have meetings during lunch is the christian club.

I'm doing track & field!

Hehe, they count. happy.gif Unless, of course, the sports you're playing are included as curriculum in your P.E. class or something... "Extra-curricular" literally means anything outside of curriculum, and curriculum is set by state standards for the school. =)
Still young, but I feel incredibly old. Silly me.

I've done those sports during PE before but I'm not taking PE this year .. does it still count as EC?

PE courses are considered part of your curriculum. So, for example, if you and your friend (let's say Bob) both took the same PE courses for the entire four years, but YOU went and attended something like after-school basketball teams, you look better than Bob.

Application evaluators look for people who are willing to do things outside of requirements. If you did extra-curricular activities (ie things that the school didn't require you to do), it shows that you are more well-rounded and open to new things.

Er, hopefully that makes sense...

Okay now I have another question.

I plan to go to UC Berkeley or really any school that majors in industrial/manufacturing engineering. Is it that important to have some ECs? I'm doing soccer right now & I'm hatingggggggggg it LOL :x

For any college, no matter what you're going to be studying, it is important to have extracurriculars to make you stand out. Especially at a school like Berkeley, you'll need them. Colleges like to see well-rounded students and students that do something productive with their free time.

You can, of course, choose NOT to do any extracurricular acitivities. You are, by no means, forced to do anything outside of schoolwork. However (like above ^), it makes you look better. Your choice. =)

^ Anything you do outside of school that's productive is an EC.
