i think an english major is very versatile, but i think it'd be wise to double major or minor with something else~

yeah i go to NU~ (yesss finally someone who knows it's not NW, it's NU xD)
i think econ anywhere is pretty demanding... NU has a very strong economics program... so i'd say it's pretty demanding =/ my brain isn't very economics-geared, so it's a struggle for me to maintain even a B average~

so if i were to major in english, i would toil through four years of reading incredibly difficult books so that... i can read them for the rest of my life?

You could always be a writer without going to college...
I'll be a writer when I'm old and have enough money just to be all by myself with no interruptions. ;DDD
And yes, you can be a lawyer--since you'll learn how to 'persuade' and reason with/against people...but you have to go to law school too. Soo...yeah...basically a double major?
Writers don't get too much money in general though...
Unless your a genius who can create a charismatic world like Rowling's HP and whatnot.
Then you could earn millions...*the dream i could never have*

haha... uh... reading shakespeare isn't the only thing you do with an english major........
being an english major enhances your writing skills and your ability to think critically. being able to write is a skill greatly needed in business right now, since a lot of people in business can't write at all (and this was told to me by the vice president of boeing, who is an english major himself).
creative writing at NU? i haven't actually applied to the program yet~ but at NU there are three tracks (poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction). you take intro classes to those, and apply to whichever programs you want
