Seriously, in all my AP English class essays, i've never gotten a 7 or above.
I have an exam coming up soon (I have to write four essays)... does anyone have tips?

umm what essays do you have to write?
if its a descriptive response essay... like one you have to write after you read a poem, i'd say when u are reading the poem or whatever, pay attention to how it makes you feel and which parts make you feel that way, and then look for an overall understanding of it i guess? and pay attention to literary devices that the author uses to express his/her ideas...
i hope this helps! its nothin ur teacher wouldnt have told you i think but i just wanted to tell you what works for me =]

if you keep writing essays, and you actually go over your own essay (with or without corrections), you can see what did or didnt work and fix it for next time. its a building process.
...and boring as it sounds... read a lot of essays. of course this doesnt apply to just AP English essays...

Just writing general ones... like ones where you use a book you have read.
O.O
We had one like "Poe thinks short stories/poems are better than novels because one can finish in one-sitting... do you agree or disagree?"
and we had to use novels/poems for the essay...and i freakin' had nothing to write...
I know one major tip is using specific examples from the novel that will help you explain.

Specific examples do help, but in general supporting your idea/main point well is important. You don't have to think too hard and create a totally orginal example or idea because that just wastes time. Find a point and develop it.
