I am going to enter one day
I just want to make sure I am ready 100%
I like this because it gives people who are not
japanese the opportunity to prove that they can do quality
manga as well.
My advice to you
do something different
or u can revolve it around your life yah know?

there's plenty of story lines out there.
you can draw about:
immigrants moving to a new country (put emphasis on changing your lifestyle)
a retired super hero is called again to serve justice.
a day in the life of fire fighters
a older man/woman looking for love
If sea animals lived in the sky, how woud life be?
living through the eyes of a stalker
take historical figures and put them in a fictional story.
If a person won a million dollars, what would really to them?
have a dog trainer/dog psychiatrist take on the craziest dogs around the country.
a golden child taking on high school football (American football)
a group of kids from different neighborhoods or borroughs form a crew to take battle rapping by storm.
a comedy about suicide.
a genius mixing two sports together.
a teacher caught up in temptation and being a pedophile.
a woman escaping from prostitution
there's so many ideas or subject that you can draw and write about.

i found this really cute. well if you were to make this longer, i think it would be those kind of manga that is really about just everyday life thing...kind of like genshiken (about everyday in the life of an otaku). i so love that kind of manga. also i like the style of drawing in that pic.
if you think it's hard to make up a storyline then why don't you work with someone (altho ask Tokyopop if you could first). you can do the drawing and the person can make up the storyline (and give each other's inputs). i think whatever that you find interesting and makes you excited then when you draw it, people can feel the excitement and want to continue reading.
my little bro drew a one page comic for his art class. he hated it so i guess that means he won't want to become a mangaka. altho he does love to draw for the fun of it....monsters and creatures that he makes up in his mind.
good luck on anyone who is doing this. i hope to see all of you guys' mangas one day.
