Well someone scratched my back bumper while trying to park next to me and now I want to get it repainted....just the scratch.
I was considering Maaco, cheap and since the driver of the other car is paying for it (you know they're trying to get the cheapest price).

^ The red circle is to pin-point the scratch, if it helps any.

Would anyone be willing to give me a ROUGH estimate of what it might cost at Maaco?
I would call the place but it's closed and I'm trying to get an idea of the cost ASAP.

Maaco is known to do pathetic jobs

There have been stories about them doing a decent job if YOU do the prep work yourself, but i'd rather paint it myself.

Find a local body shop and ask for an estimate there cuz you have a high chance of running into paint running or having it peel off due to poor work.

Maaco = tongue2.gif

and for your other question, Maaco usually charges a couple hundred depending on where you go.

find a decent body shop that does do quality work, who cares about what the other driver says. it's his/her fault in the first place.

^ Yeah I'll probably go into the dealer that I bought my car from....but it does matter what the other driver says b/c if she doesn't agree with the price and refuses to pay then I have to pay for it...and something like this isn't worth reporting to the insurance b/c either way insurance will rise and it'll be more costly than the repair itself.

if the other driver refuses to pay, then you can take legal action.

the scratch looks kind of big and deep for a touch up job... i think it'd be better to repaint the whole bumper, or half of your bumper, depending on the paint condition.

and since the other person's paying for it, there's no reason for you to go extra cheap. go to a reputable place, or better yet the dealer.

Yeah from the stories i've heard Maaco is terrible and so is that other place , Earl Schieb. If they're going to get it repainted then get it painted right at a real body shop (which won't be cheap).

Why are you going on that person's terms and get cheap paint? That doesn't make sense. That person is at fault and damaged YOUR property. Why don't you go for the best paint job possible, and if the other party refuses to pay for it, then you get their insurance information. If they refuse, then it's lawsuit time.

Just like previous, maaco seems to do a horrendous job.. even websites against using their services! haha

i think your best bet is to go to the dealership. who cares if its not cheap (theyre paying for it) and at least you know you will get the same color paint, etc smile.gif

Well just b/c it's their fault doesn't mean you have to be a total b!tch about it. There's more to the story too.
I was back in my hometown for the Memorial weekend and I parked my car outside a grocery store. She drove in, hit my car, left a note on my seat, and I discovered the scratch only after seeing the note. Later I called her and it turned out to be a high school classmate from a few years back. The thing is, my hometown is in a different state from which I live now. So we're communicating through phone calls and email. I don't know how she didn't get a good look at the scratch b/c she did walk by my car to drop the note on my seat.
Anywho, I've decided to go to a local body shop instead. I tried the original dealership I bought my car from but they don't have a body shop so no luck with that, we went to the shop they suggested so I trust that they'll do a decent job. The estimate is $250...so she'll have to cover most of it.
Trust me, I've already layed it all down: told her she's at total fault, she should cover all costs, yadayadayada...

Lawsuit? Why don't I just pull out my hair. That'll be time off work, driving 7 hours to and from, etc. Hassle, hassle, hassle.

Well here's my other question: my insurance has a $500 deductible, doesn't this mean that they WON'T cover the damages b/c it's under $500? I'm kinda confused when it comes to this stuff. Grrrr.

That's what she suggested....and I'm not ready to use my car as a guinea pig. Sorry.

Anywho, thanks to all for your advice.

yup they won't

I had 500$ deductible. I was clueless about insurance coverage too, I just picked the cheap one.
My car once got broken into, the window repairs cost me about $300
Because it's under $500, I had to pay the repair cost myself. dry.gif
If the window damage was $550, I only had to pay $50, the insurance company would cover the $500.

Since then, I upgraded to $250 deductible.
