Why are you going on that person's terms and get cheap paint? That doesn't make sense. That person is at fault and damaged YOUR property. Why don't you go for the best paint job possible, and if the other party refuses to pay for it, then you get their insurance information. If they refuse, then it's lawsuit time.
Well just b/c it's their fault doesn't mean you have to be a total b!tch about it. There's more to the story too.
I was back in my hometown for the Memorial weekend and I parked my car outside a grocery store. She drove in, hit my car, left a note on my seat, and I discovered the scratch only after seeing the note. Later I called her and it turned out to be a high school classmate from a few years back. The thing is, my hometown is in a different state from which I live now. So we're communicating through phone calls and email. I don't know how she didn't get a good look at the scratch b/c she did walk by my car to drop the note on my seat.
Anywho, I've decided to go to a local body shop instead. I tried the original dealership I bought my car from but they don't have a body shop so no luck with that, we went to the shop they suggested so I trust that they'll do a decent job. The estimate is $250...so she'll have to cover most of it.
Trust me, I've already layed it all down: told her she's at total fault, she should cover all costs, yadayadayada...
Lawsuit? Why don't I just pull out my hair. That'll be time off work, driving 7 hours to and from, etc. Hassle, hassle, hassle.
Well here's my other question: my insurance has a $500 deductible, doesn't this mean that they WON'T cover the damages b/c it's under $500? I'm kinda confused when it comes to this stuff. Grrrr.

DIY .
bondo, sand, primer, coat :]
That's what she suggested....and I'm not ready to use my car as a guinea pig. Sorry.
Anywho, thanks to all for your advice.
