I personally prefer Statistics. It makes more sense to me. biggrin.gif Precalc wasn't bad, but then when I went into calculus, I was completely lost.

both are easy, which one will help you more? which one is a prerequisite for classes you'll have to take in the future (if any)? I'd say take precalculus, but if you've already taken it... why aren't you taking calculus?

What are you planning to do in the future? I'd find statistics much more important and to set you up very well in the future if you plan to do anything in business. However, pre-calculus sets you up for harder courses such as Calculus for down the road if you plan to do anything in biology/chemistry/physics etc. (non-business stuff)

Unless you are majoring in a pure science field, choose stats.
It's more usedful even in "not-so-purely-science-centered" majors.

I never took any Calculus related subject back in highschool and even right now. ;_; But I will also suggest Statistics. It's not that hard and you can definitely see how it can be applied.

Okay, definitely take pre-calculus then as it can be applied to your field much easily =). However, try to find "Applied Mathematics." As that will be more useful to you.

Stats is pretty useless. Intro level stats all you do is find simple probabilities and just common things you learn in elementary school, it is really boring and easy. Precalc I believe is pointless too, but if you have to take it to get to Calc then so be it. Calc and upper calc classes are much more useful/interesting than stats, maybe thats just me though.

Some of my friends that are nursing majors take a special/certain type of math that deals with it. It mostly deals with conversions such as changing mg to grams, or kilograms to pounds etc. finding out how many mg of drugs you need for a certain body weight etc. =). *Most* of these problem solving type of programs are found in pre-calc.

I've just graduated from my BSc in Mathematics & Statistics and I find Statistics way easier than maths, i don't like pure and calculus/ precalculus etc. I find statistics really useful in real life, but as for nursing, i don't know, it might be *shrugs* i don't know what elementary statistic units consist of. But stats is easier, a lot more number crunching, but besides that its easy. Hope it helps.

Elementary statistics for the most part seems to just be simple probabilities, normal distribution, standard deviation, z-scores, t-score, chi squared and khypothesis testing. I'm working on my BS in math, but dang it's a pain. Double majoring seeminly isn't worth it.

seeen, well i don't know if you'll need that in nursing since i dont know much about nursing. But those stuff (besides probability, since there's really no such things about probability) are quite useful in some sectors, like pharmaceutical companies and lab experiments as well as field experiments. Psychologists use these tests, or scores you call them and hypothesis testing. I miss doing stats sad.gif

Actually I'm taking Elementary Statistics right now, so I still can't say if it's easy or not. However, my classmates are all nursing students (I'm a shiftee so I'm different XD). They're required to take stat, but I'm not sure if it's really going to be helpful.

it's not really about what your class will allow you to "learn" something, it's about taking a class that will allow you to get a good grade. since you can take either courses, and not worry about pre-reqs after these classes, take the one that's easier.

stats is way easier than precalc. the first week of stats, you'll learn something like "if a quarter is tossed into the air, what chance do you have that it will land HEADS?" rofl

it depends on your major, if it's unnecessary to have stats then don't bother. On a side note, stats is really easy.

If you have to choose one just to satisfy a requirement, I would go with Stats solely because it is easier than Precal. Stats isn't as useless as some people might say.
