I think it's better that you take Driver Ed, because parents will B&TCH at you like crazy. Well...first time for me, I was nervous, but 6 months later, it's normal=] anyways, good luck and be SAFE!

I didn't even take drivers ed, I practiced with my dad for about five days and took my driving test. Passed it with two mistakes, now you see me driving around everywhere. Granted, I still read the DMV booklets to study up on who has the right of ways and where etc. But I don't find Drivers Ed/Driving instructors necessary, at least in my case. Unless your really horrible at driving and can't control your car at all. lol

it was AWSOME... feel like you're independent and
stuff... but then later on you get tire of driving... all you
really wanna do is stay home... but then again once you
start driving, if you don't have a car to use... if feels like you're
missing a LEG
Wanna smile for me???

Haha, my very first time was not too long ago-- around last week.
It was with my driving instructor and we just went around my neighborhood.
I was fracking nervous out of my mind though.
I'm one of those kids who knows nothing about cars, so I didn't even know how to signal and it took me a while to remember that the gas pedal was on the right and the break on the left.
It lasted about 10 minutes.
And then my first driving lesson, two days ago, I got the hang of it a lot more.
You just have to relax. That's why I like driving w/ my instructor since he's really chill. Whereas with my mother, she's freaking out so I'm freaking out as well.
Take your time, and don't press hard on the pedals. Turning is complicated at first, you have to put one hand over the other and all that good stuff.
Thumbs up (:

I just recently got my permit. Can't wait to drive! But I'm practicing first with my mom at the parking lots.

i was scared ****! my first time driving was on the way to school.
i was by myself and this was about a week after i passed the driving test.
my mom offered to follow me just in case but i said i could handle it.
so many things were going through my head while i was driving to school... when i got to
the parking lot... woosh... i was glad i was still alive! hahaha sweatingbullets.gif

i would always get scared of driving but now it's just all right.
man... i was AFRAID of freeways... now i LOVE the freeways. haha weird. i know...

you'll eventually get used to it. sometimes driving will be really fun but often times it'll get boring&tiring.
right now... i miss driving though cuz i'm all the way up north for college and dont go down home often.

BUT I'M GOING HOME TODAY CUZ FINALS ARE OVER AND FRESHMAN YEAR IS OVER TOO!!! YAY!!!

i'm going off topic... but anyways. i'm pretty sure you'll do fine driving for the first time!

driving's easy... it's driving with other people that's hard... lol

after only a few times around residential areas my dad was like "let's go on the highway"... and i freaked... xD

but yeah, you start out slow... i was too scared to go over 10 mph my first time and now i can drive at 90 mph no problem...

my dad yells at me a lot when im driving and all "you didnt turn it right"... i end up only half listening... tongue.gif

i wouldnt ride in a car with some other teens though... one time i did and she couldnt change lanes properly and i nearly died... >> plus she was driving 40 mph in a 20 mph area with lots of turns... think about my comfort here! lol

driving's no big deal once you get the hang of it... but do wear seatbelts and stuff because you dont know what other people will do... =]

Driving for the first time for me wasn't that bad.
Some tips:

++ Driving on the highway is nothing. Don't be afraid. So many people get way too worked up over this. If anything it's easier than tackling busy streets and intersections.
++ Just remember when coming to a stop sign, give yourself plenty of time to come to a smooth halt. If you're actually the one driving, you won't notice as much if you're stopping/starting too abruptly. Whenever I do that people are like "Drive more smoothly!" and I'm like "I didn't know I wasn't..." O_O;
++ Drivers Ed is a waste of time and money, IMO. But to each his/her own.

I LOVE DRIVING!

It's just that I have a hard time turning and whatnot. And parallel parking can be a biznatch and a half.
Do you remember the first time when you felt alive?

If you press on the gas pedal too hard, you'll go flying into the next stationary object closest to the car you're in.

what it do, what it do?!

the first time i drove it was so funny cause i wasn't use to the sensitivity of the gas pedal
so me and my mom were driving late at night and i pushed the gas and i coudla went up on the sidewalk but i was turning that steering wheel for my life

wooo i still chuckle when i think of it
you get use to it
its sad cause after that my mom was like traumatized and hired me a ghetto ass driving teacher
and yeah...

i swear i don't drive that bad lol

Awh ... The first time I drove was interesting.

Adrenaline was pumping and my heads were sweaty ... haha

Then I pressed the gas pedal a little too much ... almost hit a pole ...

but I got used to the gas and brake in a few days.

The first time my mom taught me to drive... she complained that I was too slow! XD
She took me to a business district on a weekend, so that I can get used to street lights and everything without many cars around.

If you press the gas pedal all the way to the floor, the throttle plate opens to the widest position. This allows the most amount of air possible to go to the engine and the airflow meter sensor will tell the ECU how much air is flowing through. The ECU will then add more fuel so that the air-fuel ratio is maintained at 14.7:1. Because you're now burning more air-fuel with the throttle wide open, your engine will be putting out more power. If your engine is connected to your transmission and the rest of your driveline has no missing parts, your car will accelerate much faster.

^ Haha! Basically what he is trying to say is that you'll get whiplash.

The most important thing to learn at first, I think, is how much pressure to put on the pedal to acelerate, and how much pressure on the brakes to come to a complete stop without you from lurching forward. You don't have to learn every single procedure on your first day in the driver's seat; just take your time and practice in an open spaced area (ie. a vacant parking lot). I don't think I was ready for the road until after a couple weeks of mindless parking lot driving. It's fun! smile.gif

Lol. My first time driving was two days ago.

With my mom, I drove my mom's van in an empty parking lot. Sure, it was fun. Practiced some stuff, and I've come to the conclusion: It's really hard to park =[ I'm talking automatic, btw.
I'd rather learn manual, but we don't have a stick.

You don't really need to floor the gas @_@.. just a little bit is a lot.
