ok, well i have a pretty nice computer. Like custom made by dad's computer friend to work really fast, and play games with really good graphics. Haha, i dont no exactly how, but it was awesome for like the first month...
Right now... I have like 2.5GB of space left, and every once in a while, it freezes up, and takes literally 10 min to get working again. Iono wuts up with my comp. Im gonna buy a 500GB external hard drive so i can get some free space, but is there anything else i can do?
Its really driving me crazy.. should i get like firedog or w/e? is it Spyware maybe?
I've had the problem for like a year, but i think its finally time i got some help from ppl who know their stuff.
thankkkksss!

probably your antivirus, those things are so useless. If you don't have an antivirus, it's probably a virus or spyware.

you havent really told us what your definition of a pretty nice computer is.
heck my friend thinks running on celeron with 512mb of ram is great computer.
so what you need to tell us is your computer specs.
and packing your suitcase so the zipper barely closes is never good either (analogy).
as far as giving you a suggestion of enhancing your computer, if ur lazy like me, get a software called Tuneup Utilities.
disable useless applications that startup when your computer turns on. i have all my programs running and yet i still have less than 40 processes (but i also have 2 gigs of ram).
disable windows themes etc... there are ways u can do them without Tuneup Utilities, but im too lazy to them individually.

what i know specifically is that my hardrive is about 100GB, and i have IGB ram... thats all i no. So, the cause is either Virus, antivirus, useless applications. Would i have to buy this Tuneup Utilities? or download? If i have to buy, then where?
Also, is lack of harddrive space not the culprit of my problem?
thx

Although the lack of free hardrive space can lead to a performance decrease, it generally would not be of the intensity you're speaking of. If you don't have any intensive programs running (games are pretty intensive, movie editing, things like that), and it locks up, it's probably a bad program. I've run off hardrives with only a few mb left.

You left out so many things when you posted, other than your computer hardware specs you should answer these questions to help us help you.
Do you have an anti virus program?
Who else uses the computer?
Do you have spyware protection?
What operating system are you running?
Do you know about disk cleanup and disk defragment?
I don't like you! >_<

haha, i have nooo idea!
I think im going to free the harddrive, get antispyware, then see if its too slow. Last time it was really slow, and we had someone come over and like restart (like erase everything, and reboot, iono) the computer

I believe you need 15% free space on the hardrive for the Windows defragmenter to run efficiently.

OK so far from hearing that your HDD is 100GB, is it one whole C: drive? or is your HDD is divided into partitions? Having all of your data and crap in the same drive as your Operating System WILL slow your computer down big time. It is better either to have an additional HDD as data or creating multiple partitions to have the OS in one drive (C:) and data as a separate partitions (D:, E:, F:, etc.) Plus, if your OS crashes on you and if you need to reformat, at least your data will be saved in a separate partition/HDD.

That happened to me, too!
My computer was UNBELIEVABLY SLOW! It would stop working for like...Ten minutes and then it would finally work again.
It's the lack of space as well as your programs probably. Just delete a lot of your programs you don't really use and it'll let your pc run a little faster. Although my pc didn't start going "Really good" again until I reformatted it...
