1) go to the MSDN AA web site
http://www.msdnaa.net/search/SchoolSearchUS.aspx
2)type in the city and state of your university
3)look for the department you belong to
5)click on the software link
6) at the bottom of the software webpage there should be a PA you can email so that you can recieve a user name and password
7)check out which software you want and buy!!!

software like vista, for example, is free for University of Toronto students through the same program...but the catch is, u need to be taking at least 1 comp sci course and sadly, 75% of the students at UT aren't in compsci including me
(okay i made that # up).

I'm in computer science and software develop. I get Vista Business, Visual Studios 2005, Windows Xp SP2, Visual Professional 2007 etc all for FREE! Yeahhh haha.

Yeah we have that deal, i don't do CS though... they're not all free though >_< even my friends who do CS and Software Eng, don't get them free... but most of them shun microsoft anyway, and go with Macs.
