now im taking the 2nd class from accounting which is managerial accounting
first test B and 2nd test C but he curves them! i would of done poorly if he didn't
the most recent test i bombed :| i studied everything and knew the formulas!!! but on the test when it came to show the income statements with a million numbers and i had to find the right number to put in the formula i was horrible in that!
but say when normal numbers are given and they ask to give how much units used, i can do that
i mean i went into accounting cuz no. 1 i want to major in business and i want above avg income

btw everyone is telling me that the CPA exam is hard as hell and everyone fails it and that i can't do it
i mean i don't let those words get me down..but in academic areas im not awesome at it, im going to take precalc and in my 3rd year by Aug!!! i suck at math!!!!
i liked learning foreign languages but when it got too hard i kinda quit and lost interest
only good thing is that i think imma visual learner??? like when i study i just read it over and over again, hope that helps to decide what business major is right

im an accounting major.. lol and im in my fourth year.. so far ive survived.. its actually okay.. you dont need to be a math genius or even close to that.. but you need to really have time for it and to study.. what exactly is your problem on the exams? maybe i can help...?
you need to understand what is needed in the question so that you'll be able to get the answer.. and if it helps, eliminate the zeros when calculating so you wont get confused

I'm a tax major, which is within the accounting department. The math side of it isn't anything more than basic arithmetic, but conceptually it can be very challening depending on which part of accounting you're talking about. Or some areas of accounting are incredibly dull and tedious, like cost accounting, even if they are very important.
Accounting certainly isn't for everybody, but if your determined to do it you can be successful with enough discipline and effort. But if you find you really just can't bring yourself to care enough to do well, there are plenty of other business majors - here at Georgia State the business school offers the following undergrad majors: accounting, computer information systems, economics, finance, health administration, hospitality administration, international business, managerial science, marketing, communications, real estate, risk management and insurance, acturial science, legal studies, and risk management and insurance. At the graduate level they add in majors for taxation and personal financial planning.
Accounting is a very "safe" choice, in the sense that there is far more accounting work to be done then there are accountants to do it, so there will always be a job for you no matter where you go, so if you can make a go of it you'll be pretty well set on the career side. But even if doesn't work out, you got plenty of other options if you want to stay in the realm of business majors.
As to the CPA exam, yes indeed it is incredibly hard and the vast majority of people do not pass all four parts on their first attempt. The financial portion is generally deemed the most difficult. But I know several people who have passed all four sections on the first try (all of them Asian...), so it's by no means impossible.

I'm a AB Psychology - BS Accountancy major (my gawd @__@ didn't know the double degree program at our uni is soo long 5 1/2 years T___T) Anywho... I plan of shifting xD... I'm gonna drop my Psych
.
Anyway... I talked to a senior who majors in Accountacy and she says that if you like it, it's not that hard. =/.
I've been told that the exam for CPA is hard... but yeah... I can do it @__@.
Besides... I'm only a freshman ^^;;;.
I believe that you don't need to be a super genius in math... studying helps. (my friend who is not good in math, passed her first accountancy exam xD... and she studies alot)
So yeah... goodluck!

I'm currently pursuing my masters in accounting and will be done next semester.
The accounting major is such a hot major to pick right now these days.
I hope you didn't chose to be an accounting major just because of that.
True, the demand for accountants is very high these days, but if you don't like what you're doing and you aren't confident in the accounting classes you are taking, maybe you should really look back on the reasons you want to study accounting.
Accountants really need communications skills because what accountants essentially do is take financial numbers and translate them to people with no financial background and inform them of how well/poor their business is doing. Don't think accountants live a sheltered life. I'm on my 3rd internship and all of them required me to work on my communication and presentation skills.
I don't mean to sound discouraging, but I don't want to you to chose a major thinking that it will solve all your future problems.
good luck!
