I like apartments better because at UCSD, if you get apartments they come with kitchens but if you're in reshalls, then there aren't any ktichens.

Apartment ~
Pro: less people to share bathroom and kitchen
Con: pricey - might have to deal with monthly bills - have to put effort in keep the place clean

Residence Hall ~ (personal experience)
Pro: share with a room with a person or two - there should be a dinning common near by - no need to pay bills - daily custodian to clean the hall and bathroom *sanitation* - unlimited T1 connection **if it's a UC or a well-known college** - programs that are set up to educate you bout the campus and free treats
Con: share bathroom, kitchen, and laundry room with the rest of the people in the building - more people to live = more dramas - have to deal with Residential Advisers and their rules *i dont know bout you guys, but i had to deal with the 'Quiet Hours' and got myself written up several times just for laughing with the door open after 11 pm*

~that's all i can think of for now.

you'll meet less people if you live in an apartment as opposed to a traditional dorm.

For first year I would say do a dorm. Dorms are the best way to make friends that you'll see often. Apartment you'll meet fewer people, but you'll have more privacy. So I guess it depends on what you want and how many people you know already going to the college.

dorming is an experience, and it's probably only for 1 year. you have the rest of college/rest of ur life to live in an apartment. plus, it's easier to make friends if ur dorming. dorms typically have public bathrooms but at my school, there are some res halls (such as the one i got put in for my frosh year this fall) that are suite style, which means we have a private bathroom and a common room. of course, my res hall is known as the international housing dorm also so that might be a reason why it's nicer... i also know all dorms at NYU have private bathrooms too.

for me apartments are better, you can't meet as many people, but you still do make a couple friends with your neighbors, cause my apartment complex is pretty much all asian UW students, the manager is asian too. More privacy in an apartment, less sharing. It's good for when you have your bf over for the night smile.gif thats a major plus I think, cause you can get cozy without freaking out roomates. Another major plus is you can walk around in your underwear all day (not that I do it all day). For me its way better than dorms, cause I never could study in my dorm room and I had two roomates and one of them always brought strange people back to our room, there were a lot of inconveniences at the dorm for me and plus the R.A. was a b!tch.

I'm thinking the same thing.
I already live in an apartment with my sisters who both go to Georgia Tech.
and I'm taking summer classes at Tech but i was thinking of moving in a dorm
for Fall semester. I really dont like living with my sisters but i love the not sharing
bathroom with strangers lol and i want to meet more people living in a dorm..
Not sure what to do...

hmm residence hall is more like a dorm and u gotta share a room. itz like having a roomate but for a apt itz ur choice to either have a roomate or not.

personally i live in apt all by myself i dont really like people going through my stuff and i got alot of stuff that is worth alot of money cuz i have a game room full of games and systems.

seems like a lot of people don't like sharing bathrooms, but dorming here at UCD, we get janitors to clean it everyday unless you live in a suite, so it's not that bad. you get to meet a lot of people when you dorm and RAs put up programs and there's always free food! but it's a lot more expensive than an apartment though and definitely less privacy. also my dorm had thin doors so whenever someone was in the hallway or if someone left their door open, you can hear them talking/music-- not the most enjoyable thing when you're trying to sleep or study.

Dorms-
Pros- Don't have to clean bathrooms or most public areas. building itself is usually much more social(but apt can be social too)

Cons- Sometimes more expensive because of food plans (at USC you can't avoid it). Not much privacy. Cant cook (at least at my school dorms). Have to share most areas with everybody (there's no individual living room or bathroom)

apts-
pros-more freedom (more choices about number of rooms, number of your roommates, etc) more privacy, can cook. can hang out more in apts (if you wanna drink or party or something esp) possibly cheaper.

cons-you'll probably have to cook (if you dont like cooking prob should get a meal plan), have to clean your own bathrooms! and livingrooms XP ech. Have to buy more household items you might throw away by the time you leave (like plates and cooking utensils), not as social.
URGH don't ever call me honey, love, sweetie, cutie pie, baby, babe, etc. You don't know me and how old I am.

RESIDENCE!!!!!! Best way to make new friends and have fun biggrin.gif
"But when it ends and while it ends, something comes, after so much rage, persistence, obstinacy, extravagance; something entirely unexpected and touching in its mildness and goodness. With the motif passed through many vicissitudes, which takes leave and so doing becomes itself entirely leave-taking, a parting wave and call, with this D G G occurs a slight change, it experiences a small melodic expansion. After an introductory C, it puts a C sharp before the D. . .and this added C Sharp is the most moving, consolatory, pathetically reconciling thing in the world. It is like having one's hair or cheek stroked, lovingly, understandingly, like a deep and silent farewell look. . . . " (Mann: 55).

Dorming, in my experience, was way overrated.

The food was gross, and if you don't want to eat dorm food, then you have to go out to eat, or cook it yourself. But it's not like there's a mini kitchen in your room or anything. And it's not like everyone has a car so you'd have to walk. Or starve. LOL.

You can't have your friends sleeping over because the room is too small.

The bathroom is shared with all the girls in your hall. And it gets kinda scary when you're taking a shower at like 4 in the morning lol.

Anyway, I LOVE living in my own apartment. I don't mind having roommates, but I do mind sharing rooms with someone. For my 2nd year in college, I lived with 3 girls in a 4 bed-4 bath fully furnished apartment. I LOVED having my own bathroom and my own room. It's so convenient! And you get to have your own privacy. Oh and it's so much fun cooking your own food haha. My roommies and I hated doing the dishes, so we bought a crap load of paper plates and plastic utensils from Costco for the whole year hahaha.

But anyway, for your freshmen year, I guess dorming would be a memorable experience for you? But if you absolutely cannot stand living with someone, then get a single dorm room or get your own apartment with some roommates.

Good luck and have fun!!!!!!

or study hard, party harder, whichever you prefer lol
