QUOTE (cy24 @ Aug 7 2009, 04:05 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I've been out of work for the last 6+ months. I was laid off. At first it was pretty daunting looking for work with little to no responses from employers whom I've applied to. Now it just seems a little bit hopeless, but then again, I haven't put in much effort within the last couple of months. I've been in vacation mode and have taken trips within the last 2 months. I've got to change tactics on how to look for work. Any suggestions? My background is in the Accounting field.

*pat pat* dont go down by all the stuf just keep apply though never know when it comes to granted, you know in my country (Indonesia) bachelor deegre has no guarantee to be absorped in field work, had study for some quite time is not enough to compete so need another thing i guess, faithfull over seeking for job because we need it to live even though we are the richest man in this world tongue.gif
Keep fight okay?! btw, we are same, accounting field wink.gif

uhh... career's or job?

my honest piece of advice.. if you don't have teamwork and a nice boss or a understanding boss.. it's one of the stressful jobs ever. I used to work in Walgreen.. and the boss used to be so bitter everyday. always making a big deal out of every little thing...

so my advice is to make sure your ENVIRONMENT is not stressful.

Oh and my previous job is there. tile settler? it's pretty easy job. bit tiring.
it's physically stressful.. than it is mentally.
especially when i can't breathe while all the paint residue clogs your lungs.

Today was my first day of being a special education assistant at my old middle school. I thought I was going to work with kids with mental disabilites such as autism or down syndrome. However I got the kids that are loud, rude. disrespectful and dont' really care about school. Does anyone have experience working with kids like these? If so how do you get them to do their work and respect the teacher?

^

try to associate yourself with the kids. like why are they rude, loud and disrespectful? i work with kids quite a lot and it takes a lot of patience! how old are they? the younger they are, the more hyper they seem to be, but even though they seem disrespectful, they do come round eventually. just try and stick it out =)

I have worked with kids' age ranging from 7-17 for over six years...and yes, there were a lot of, for better words, "unsecured" kids. But keep in mind, these kids are not criminals...so don't treat them as one. But then again, I have always got "pushover" by them so not much help from me. I think for a teacher it is really hard. It is either 1) fear and scared or 2) being nice, and end up a pushover. Over six years, and there has only been 1-2 teacher who fit both. Good luck~! But it is a good experience, get to know them. smile.gif

I just moved to CA, most specifically Southern CA...is it me or this place has the worst unemployment rate (over-exaggerated, of course)? But yeah, still looking - competitive as heck though. sleep.gif

Just a newly graduate and working right now in a government. I'm a consultant's assistant of a secretary of finance. My work is not that hard and it pays well as to compare to newly hired fresh grads. But I'm planning to study fashion styling soon because I finally found what I want.

Wish me luck!

I'm a graduate awaiting board results. [Hopefully soon to be Licensed] Veterinary Technician. I work in a large and small animal practice and hope to one day move into zoo medicine.

Just to clarify, I am not a Veterinarian. I do all but: prescribe, diagnose, and perform surgery.

The pay isn't much at all but the benefits are AWESOME!!! And it's a reaaally small company so once it goes big, I'll definitely have some advancement opportunities!! I'm so excited! ^_______^

Congrats! Small or startup companies are one the best places for gathering a lot of experience in a very short time. Invairably, they'll be short handed so you get to dip your hands into things that aren't in your job description. I worked for a startup some years ago and that was great experience. My advice is to jump on everything that they throw at you. Best of luck!

I'm contemplating trying a new job. Currently I work as a Radiology Technologist. I want to do something in HR. Perhaps recuitment/interview, training/new employee, somewhere along that line. I have an Associates in Humanities, Radiology, and Life Science. I'm completing my Bacholars of Science in Workforce Leadership. I don't have much job experience. I've worked as a safey companion (kinda like a hospital babysitter), student tutor, and student technologist. I haven't been working for long..since I just graduated from high school in 07. So my question is, with my current background...how easy is it for me to get into HR? Should I wait and get a Masters in HR...or would I be able to go into it with my current credentials?

I started a new job on August 3, 2009. Since then, 1 person has been fired, 2 people have left for new jobs. The company that I work at is pretty small too. Sad thing is, I hate it here. I don't like the environment and the people are idiots. Why are senior management people always idiots.. or at least at the place that I am working right now, they are. My question is, is it bad to keep looking/applying for better jobs even though I just started this one? And honestly, I will outright saw that I am getting underpaid here too. I know the economy sucks but it STINKS being underpaid. I know what I should be making and I am making at least 7k under that.

I am sort of in a...dilemna.

This morning I just went to apply for a government job (adminstrative and/or clerical). Well, I passed the preliminary and is scheduled for a practice exam on October 5th and later an official exam. Well, here is the problem. I am also scheduled for another interview with a marketing firm tomorrow - and if I do well, I might be hired. The question is...I would have to spend the next two weeks studying and hopefully pass the government exam. Should I still go to the interview tomorrow? I mean, I don't want to get hired for that firm...but end up later resigning that marketing firm for the government job. What should I do? My friend told me to just go with the marketing firm because government jobs are hard to hire - so I can have something in hand.

I should concentrate on the government job - after reading this...
