yea Michael Moore has the rep for twisting the truth into his own liking, all documentaries do that. but its a lot better than Fahrenheit and maybe even more than Bowling for Columbine
well i am one of the 50 million americans without health insurance so you know where i stand.
It comes out on theaters June 28

i love watching documentaries because.. sometimes the truth is too dry to read on the papers and in the news.

Before you move you might want to practice not going to the doctor for months on end.. Universal Health Care has it's problems too. Albeit, not nearly as many as Privatized.
I can't say the I was apprehensive about this MM movie like I am about his others. He tends to cherry pick and show slanted views, but my hatred for the health care system in america far outweighed my distaste for his movie making. I'm actually really glad that he did a movie on the subject. Just having his name attached will get celebrity bandwagoners on the UHC train.
I got about a quarter of the way through this movie and had to shut it off. The health care system in America disgust me. If you are dying of cancer you can't get any sort of treatment BUT if you think you might have a cold you get right in to see the doctor..
A couple years ago I saw how much my grandmother was charged monthly for prescription medication (upwards of $1000.. per month!) and I have pretty much boycotted the health care system since. It's amazing how much the elderly and the poor are screwed with the current system. Not to mention children of poor families.

i was crying towards the end when the people got their treatment in cuba.
it was a sad movie, and as biased as it is, i think it brings much attention to our bad health system.

1. Prescriptions are expensive because they have to be. Why would pharmaceutical companies keep doing research and development if they couldn't make a profit?
2. Privatized isn't bad. I'd rather be able to see a doctor when I need to than having to be shut out at times when I am quite sick. Now to be fair it is quite sad that there are those that cannot see a doctor about things because they can't afford to. However, if they don't have insurance or ways of paying, why should the clinic/hospital incur the cost?
I think for the most part the health care system is fine, sure it has flaws, but everything does.

Having to be shut out at time when you're sick?? that's what happens to so many americans because health care is privatized. If they cant pay why should the hospital incur the cost?? no one's asking the hospital to, the choices arent privatized or the hospital pays, we're talking about universal healthcare. Sure it'll raise taxes but overall you'll save more money paying those extra taxes than paying health insurance. So basically if you ran a hospital, you'd tel people who cant afford it "tough luck, go away" Like it or not, news sites have fact checked moore's film and most of what's in this movie is on the button.
A freaking child lost her life cause the hospital wouldnt do anything for the kid and while the kid had a 100+ fever told the mom to drive somewhere else cause she didnt have the proper healthcare. That's just wrong any way you cut it. PErhaps when you get off your health coverage under your mommy or daddy's work, you'll get a different perspective.

Kinda off topic, but still somewhat related, but did anyone see Moore on The Colbert Report? He was talking about having an hour long interview on Larry King Live but was bumped for Paris Hilton instead. He rescheduled his interview on another date but it had much lower ratings than Paris' interview. It 's great to know Americans care more about some airhead heiress than such a significant issue like health care and people's lives.

same (but apparently the movie wasn't about people like us hehe)
the fact that i don't have health insurance wouldn't be so bad if not for the fact that i'm always getting sick. i've had to be pretty inventive finding ways to get the medications i need (especially since one of them costs $400 for a month's supply). i don't really like to complain about my situation because at least i can still manage and i know there are so many others who have it so much worse. one of my dad's friends died of a stomach ailment that went untreated for too long because he couldn't afford medical care. he wasn't even that old. you can bet i wish that all american citizens were guaranteed access to medical care, the way citizens of other countries seem to be. although i wondered about the people that moore wasn't interviewing and the questions he wasn't asking (it's pretty obvious that he's biased), i was still astonished to see that people in france can just pick up a phone and call a doctor for a home visit in the middle of the night, or that people in cuba can get a certain medication for a nickel whereas in america the same medication would cost over $100.
one of my bio teachers told us that pharmaceutical companies charged AIDS patients in africa $12,000 for medications (unattainable, considering their average income was less than $1000). when it was discovered that those medications cost literally pennies to make, other countries with high AIDS rates (south africa, thailand, brazil) started making the meds on their own. the pharmaceutical companies actually attempted to sue, and when word got around and the companies found themselves in a bad PR mess, they suddenly changed their tune, dropped the price to a few hundred, and tried to pass off the drop in price as "we care so much about AIDS patients in third-world countries." it's really disgusting.

My friend told me about this movie. When she told me about the stories I was shocked. I mean, life-time prisoners in cuba have better health care than lower class america?!?!
There was a recent thing about Kaiser and how they dumped a patient at a homeless shelter because he no longer had health insurance, even though he was not suppose to be released and his condition was still serious.
