By 'from China,' I mean buying from China...

Anyway, I want to buy a cell phone in China, but before I actually look for specifics, I'm not too sure whether or not it would work in the US. I know I have to buy at least a triband (or whatever it's called...x_X) phone, but other than that, how would I know if it would work in the US? I use Cingular, so would I have to talk to them or something?

Yeah. I don't want to waste money on a phone and then have it not work in the US. :X

Thanks!

in order to work with cingular, it has to use sim card. (same goes with t-mobile). and if the phone is not 3g(triband), you have to unlock it to work with cingular. I think I answered your question..lol.
as to where to unlock, most phone places offers that kind of service I think. the bad thing is that you can't call up cingular for the unlock code since you didn't buy it from them. but you can always lie and say you are traveling out of the country and you need it unlock to work in that country. but that takes a lot of work cause they email you the code and whatnots. best if you have it unlock by someone who knows how.
I never had to pay for mine when I needed it to be unlocked. cause my brother knows the ppl around my area. but I heard it runs from 5-10 bucks.

^Yeah, Cingular unlocked my now-cell phone and it was super complicated, but free... So you're saying if I buy a triband cell phone and get it unlocked, then I can use it? (All cell phones in China use SIM cards...)

Thanks!
