Just curious....how important to colleges view your senior grades? Do they just check what classes you're taking, and go a little easier on what grades you get in them?

11+ YEARS AND STILL GOING STRONG

usually on the apps, the colleges ask what classes you're taking your senior year. i think all grades that go into your gpa are all equally important. if you slack off a lot and make really bad grades and your college gets your final transcript and sees those grades, they can kick you out. of course those are extreme cases.

it depends.

if you're doing early decision/action, its actually very important (since the schools you're applying ED/EA are probably highly selective anyways).

for instance, on my pomona app it says "No admissions decisions will be made without the receipt of mid-year transcripts. All offers of admission are conditional pending final grades."

so basically, don't screw up. if your grades are comparable to what you've gotten previously, you should be ok.

UCs don't get your transcript until you select the school of your choice (May).
And even then, they only want no Ds and an overall average of C+.

Other schools, I'm just guessing Bs will be okay.
I think USC doesn't even request Midyear reports sometimes.

This is what I heard and I hope it's true because I'm doing so badly in school lol.

They look at the rigor of your senior year classes
and if they find out that you slacked off too much (getting alot of C/Ds) then they can revoke your admissions

Typically, colleges don't take the grades themselves; they look at your senior grades (and the other three years of high school) to see how well of a student you are. The only high school credits they take is AP and Honors (I'm not so sure on honors).

Other credits aren't taken because public schools can be very lenient on students. Colleges have become paranoid that some high schools are offering too much extra credit to students, giving some undeserving students a grade they should have never gotten. This obviously doesn't apply to all high schools, but it's the standby that universities must take.

The senior grades, even if they don't take it, are very important. First off, it's really one of few pieces of information that the college will have prior to actually meeting you.

Besides grades, there's information about extra-curricular activities (ie clubs, sports, etc.).

So work hard!! happy.gif

i think some Ucs and Colleges don't really depend on the senior yr grades.. but then i don't know if it's the same in america.. cuz im in the philippines.. oh well.. i applied in this particular college and they required our first quarter senior grades..

o_o

i don't know if that's normal.. lols.. cuz of all the ucs i've applied for that school is the only one who asked for the senior grades in the application..

but well.. i still think it's pretty important too.. cuz some Ucs and colleges accept applications in summer (over here.. still i don't know if it's the same in america)

As long as you don't fail all of your classes and manage to get A's and B's.....you'll be FINE.

^ They'll probably end up looking at your junior grades as well; as far back as necessary to determine what standing you're in.

Depends on the college. If they're "prestigious" and was considered "hard to get in", most likely they'll look at your senior grades.

I know UCSD & UCB have revoked some enrollments from friends' experiences.
Pretty sure Ivy Leagues will too.

The tougher the college, the more they'll look at your senior grades. Don't slack off! smile.gif

Do well in the first half of the year.

Once you've been accepted into the college of your choice, then you can get straight Bs. Just don't fail.

I'm curious, how low were your friends' grades to deserve that punishment?

Shouldn't it depend on the grades you got before? Like if you had a 4.0 in all the other semesters and then got straight Bs, they'd get suspicious. But if you had an equal amount As and Bs previously, then straight Bs would be okay.

^ If you started out with straight-A's and then dropped down to something like straight-B's, that's not such a great thing. It could mean that you got lazy, got a girlfriend/boyfriend and changed your priorities, or ANYTHING. The evaluators will judge based on the information you give them besides your grades (i.e. letter of reccomendation, resume..)
