Hiya,

okay...before I ask the favor, I need to apologize for two things.

First, I am really sorry if I am bringing up sad memories for anyone who is reading this, because I myself don't usually wanna read topics like these, it makes me really sad... so really really sorry...but I have no other option...

2nd, I am sorry if this is the wrong section, since I had no idea where to post this.... forgiveness is good... so I am forgiven...aigh? tongue.gif

okay.... so here is my favor and the reason behind this topic...

I am planning to do a school paper which is due in a month on effects of Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, however in order to be really focused on one "simple" topic and really do well on it, I was planning to write it on Korean victims of those explosions aka the "Korean-Hibakusha(s)" ( I am not sure if that is how its written)...

Anyways, the problem is that I need sources, written ones, mostly books and articles (in English) in order to do my research on the subject and sadly I can't seem to find any in the country I am living in. I am still looking online, but as we all know, online sources are not very reliable and I need at least about 8 reliable source before I can do my investigation. So what I am going to ask from you guys is:

If you know of any history books, where they mention the Korean victims of those bombings, give me the name of the author, the name of the book and year it was published so I can order the book...

OR if you know someone who lived during that time OR someone who is related to someone was living at that time and has heard of the stories of their relative and could possibly give me an interview, I would really appreciate it if you could get me get the interview:D ...

I can't say I can give you guys anything in return, but just that you guys will be blessed biggrin.gif

I know it is too much to ask, but I am hoping to gather some really good sources by the end of this week or else I have to change my topic and frankly I am not really interested in of the topics my teachers suggested, because I am more interested in Asian history compared to European or American history, since we all kinda know that there are fewer books on Asian history compared to other continents, and I usually wanna research things that is less known to people.

Thanks for your help in advance,

God Bless!!!

-Cleo-

"Among the 350,000 to 400,000 who were attacked by the atom bomb and/or exposed to the lethal post-explosion radiation, at least 50,000 were people from the Korean peninsula who had been forcibly sent to Japan as mobilized workers and soldiers, or who had left their villages following the devastation of Japan's colonial takeover of Korea in 1910. . . . Until 1990, the speeches of political elites at the annual municipal Peace Memorial Ceremony on August 6th never referred to the at least 20,000 to 30,000 Korean atom bomb victims, who comprised between ten and twenty percent of the total population estimated to have been immediately killed by the bombing" (emphasis added, Lisa Yoneyama, "Memory Matters: Hiroshima’s Korean Atom Bomb Memorial and the Politics of Ethnicity," Public Culture 7.3, Spring 1995, p. 502).

Korean survivors - from wikipedia

During the war Japan brought many Korean conscripts to both Hiroshima and Nagasaki to work as forced labor. According to recent estimates, about 20,000 Koreans were killed in Hiroshima and about 2,000 died in Nagasaki. It is estimated that one in seven of the Hiroshima victims was of Korean ancestry.[51 ] For many years Koreans had a difficult time fighting for recognition as atomic bomb victims and were denied health benefits. [[9]] Though such issues have been somewhat addressed in recent years, issues and resentments regarding recognition continue to linger.
