Hi,
does anybody have this problem with their LCD monitor screen, where the monitor suddenly went blank, but the monitor's power light is still on? I had this happen to me just this morning, and what I did was I pressed the monitor's power button to shut it off, then pressed it again to turn it back on... and the monitor went back to normal until it went blank again. I did this several times and decided to restart the computer... but that didn't work.... then I decided to shut the comp off for an hour... that didn't work either. When the monitor was about to act weird, I could see it fluctuate from normal to dim.
So afterwards I shut off the comp and tried disconnecting the monitor from its socket... and it seems to be working normal afterwards & no more blanking out.
I was freaked out that if the monitor was broken, I would have to go out & buy another one.. and that would be a pain... and I've been using this monitor for almost 3 years now.
So my question is.. is there a way to fix ur monitor on ur own if it suddenly blanks out (like.. not in the situation I had there.. but like blanking out & u can't get it back to normal)? Or does buying a new monitor cost less than repairing it?
Thnx.

Most likely, check your cable, and try switching with another cable to test it. If it still happens, your monitor has a problem for sure, you should bring it to where you bought it so they can test it.

How old is it?

It sounds like your backlight is going out. Next time it goes black grab a flashlight and aim it at your screen and look at it from an angle you should be able to see everything still.

Either the inverter board or the backlight bulb.

From the sounds of it, its the inverter because it works most of the time.

Let me explain...
The LCD has a light bulb on the bottom (some have one on the top as well)
Its a cold cathode tube and its about 2mm thick and looks like a thin thin fluorescent bulb. That bulb uses something called an inverter to power it... The inverter coverts 12volts or whatever the input is to about 600volts (it sounds bad but it really isn't)

If the screen looks like it has a tinge of red, yellow, or orange then its probably the bulb.
If the screen just blacks out then its the inverter board.

OK why did I explain so much? Because inverter boards are easy to replaces and you can search on ebay for the model and HOPE to find one for like $20 its a circuit board with 3 wires attached. Otherwise hope for a warranty and send it back.

thnx for the explanations..
i had the monitor for 3 yrs...
but yes.. i think there is a problem with BOTH the inverter & bulb.. cuz it shows both symptoms..
someone tells me it costs at least $60cdn here to repair it..
but then i was like.. what the heck.. and just went out & got a new one today... -____-;;

Thanks anyway! ^^

Sell the thing on ebay. There are bound to be people who damaged the screen or the circuit and can use the parts smile.gif
