Odagiri Joe / Jô Odagiri...

Joe Odagiri (Odagiri Jō, born February 16, 1976) is a Japanese actor, who was born in Tsuyama, Okayama Prefecture, Japan.
About:
Odagiri Joe was born in Tsuyama, Okayama prefecture, a small town in central Japan renowned for its beautiful cherry blossoms in the spring. Though he was accepted by Kochi University, he turned it down for an opportunity to study in the United States. He had originally intended to study movie directing at California State University in Fresno, but mistakes in the application process landed him in acting classes. It may have been a blessing in disguise, for two years after studying in Fresno and later starring in a few stage performances in Japan, Odagiri would find himself catapulted to fame in his role in the Kamen-Rider series, playing the central character, Godai Yuusuke. He became the predecessor of the "Ikemen Hero" craze (literally, "good-looking actors playing hero roles in popular TV series").
Since then, Odagiri has appeared in many movies and dramas. He won the Best New Actor Award at the 2003 Japan Academy Awards for his role as the unique nemesis in the film "Azumi", and in the following year, was awarded the Best Supporting Actor Award for his electrifying performance in internationally acclaimed director Kitano Takeshi’s 2004 film, "Blood and Bones". Odagiri's creative acting skills and strong presence in films have secured him a place in stardom. 2005 saw him in numerous roles and films, including "Maison de Himiko", where he portrays a homosexual man in a relationship with the protagonist (played by Shibasaki Kou)'s father, as well as Scrap Heaven, Shinobi~Heart Under Blade, Operetta tanuki goten (opposite Ziyi Zhang) and his English speaking debut in road movie; Big River.
2006 followed with a mix of movies and drama projects including Jikô keisatsu, Uchôten hoteru/aka The Wow-Choten Hotel, Yureru/aka Sway, Sakebi/aka Retribution, Mushishi/aka Bugmaster and Pavillion sanshouo/aka The Pavillion Salamandre. Plus there was the release of joe odagir's mini alblum's: BLACK & WHITE (06. 10. 04) and the realse of the single: Cherry The Dustman featuring collaborator Katteni Shiyagare.
2007 earlery awaits his directorial debut Looking for Cherry Blossoms (currently in pre-production) which he also stars in.

Trivia:
* In 2005 when a movie named House of Himiko was published, he said he was flatsharing with a gay man when he was a student at the university, and at the same time he declared himself asexual (but it is difficult to say whether this is true or not because he often jokes).
* He often says that Fresno is his second homeland.
* Has become famous for his unique fashion taste and hairstyle.
* Has claimed he is shy and does not like to hang out with crowds; instead prefers to stay in his home.
* Used to appear in Japanese variety shows (comedy talk shows), but became "scared" of comedy star Akashiya Sanma's eyes, which seemed to demand him to be funny. (Odagiri literally said "I'm afraid of Sanma-san's eyes") Akashiya laughed about this when Odagiri appeared on his show in 2004 and encourages him to take up comedy. Akashiya has in fact given him a stage name "Odagiri DA Joe" (which is intended to sound silly in Japanese) if Odagiri decides to pursue comedy. Odagiri apparently is not interested, saying "I hopefully won't be using that stage name".
* Despite playing several roles where the character's sexuality has been questionable, Odagiri assures his female fans that he is straight.
* He has been rumoured to be in a relationship with Japanese actress (Mizuno Miki), with whom he starred in the drama, "Hatsu Taiken". Some members of the media suggest their marriage is imminent.
* Has said he likes a woman who is possibly a little older than him and is the protective, motherly type who would tolerate his selfishness and comfort his lonesome, "puppy love" personality. Mizuno, two years Odagiri's senior and recognized as an ("older sister" type) actress, seems a perfect match.
