Hmm I saw other threads like this but I am starting become suicidal because of this.
Not that I'm inflicting pain upon myself, but more like having thoughts about killing myself if I don't get into college (no community colleges).

im going to be a senior next year

Well okay here:

GPA: 2.1 (yeah i know it sucks)

I know I'm not stupid...no where near that, it's just that I'm lazy....

Classes that I took:
-Language Arts 3-4 Honors (sophomore year)
-American Literature AP prep/Honors (junior)
-AP U.S History (junior)

I got a 2 on the AP US History test sad.gif

What I'm planning to take next year (senior):
-AP GOVERNMENT
-BIO 3-4 Honors
-AP ENG

Clubs:
-FBLA (fresh-senior) Officer Position for 2 years
-ASA (fresh/junior/senior) officer position for 2 years
-Orchestra
-Girls Swim
-Gymnastics
-Lion Dance
-Job (soph-juni)
-ASB Senator

oh yeah I took the SATS on june 2nd:
-1270..lmao but I'm taking it again..

sad.gif very sad..
any hope?
suggestions?

write an hell of an admissions essay and improve like 1239831 times better??

edit:

i think you can get into cal states, but for UCs i don't think you can apply if you have under a 3.0 gpa
but that's ok lol you can always transfer, just work harder during your senior year so that the colleges can see you're trying to improve.

by the way, when did you get your ap us history score? they're out already?

edit: oh man thank goodness you have a 2.1 because i just looked at the cal states site and it says:

Below 2.0 does not qualify for regular admission
For admissions purposes, the CSU uses only the SAT scores for mathematics and critical reading.

Don't kill yourself.... This is America, people who go to community college can be plenty successful. Unlike in Asia where you have to go to a certain school to get a certain degree to get a certain high paying office job....

And besides it sounds like you live in California where transferring from CC's to Unis are easy if you manage to get really good grades while you are in CC.

So I'd say just work hard, see what happens, and adapt from there.... It's not the end of your life if you don't get into a university....

Edit:

I just saw you lived in Seattle.... XD same applies though.

Hun, it'not worth it. I know some people with low GPA, who still got accepted to college. They didn't join much of activities but they still got accepted. o_O just work harder for your senior year. Don't lose hope now, there's still senior year. You can never expect what is going to happen in senior year.

I think the best choice for you is to go to a community college first and then transfer to a UC. I know plenty of people that have done that who are actually transferring into good UC's, such as Davis (I think they have this program), SD, LA, and even Berkeley. By the way, this is a much smarter choice than going to a not-so-good college that will accept you based on those scores. If you transfer to a good college, it will be much more beneficial to you once you get a start on your career.

don't get the notion that community college is for dumb people. a lot of smart people in my class are going to community college and then transferring. like someone else said, this is america where grades aren't a #1 priority to being successful, unlike asian schools. if your parents don't know about this choice [most asian parents don't], then talk to them about it. and if you are doing this, make sure you get good grades in community college. it'll save you the trouble and the money.

other than that, try applying to UW to see if you get in if you really want to go there. doesn't hurt you.

Hmmm ... there are plenty of colleges that would still accept ...

Try applying to a lesser known college ...

PLU, SPU, Seattle U, Western Washington, Eastern Washington, etc. (naming some here in WA) ...

Or maybe Bellevue Community College. Yes, it's a CC. But it is one of the better teaching ones. In fact, I believe they're turning into a college soon.

Also, you can pretty much go to any CC and get an AA or AA transfer degree. Then you can transfer to a 4 years Univ. and use the AA as the first two years of your bachelor's degree.

if going to college was that important to you, you should've thought about this a little ahead >_< i mean, i've never heard of anyone having a low GPA complaining about going to a community college.

and yes, like everyone else here, i think there's nothing wrong with going to a community college. if you get good grades there, you'll prove that you're capable and diligent which will allow you to transfer to a 4-year university. don't make life out to be harder than it really is. there are endless ways to go but we tend to limit ourselves to only the obvious choices.

unless you have some sort of legacy at a school, i think you have slim chances of getting into the brand name colleges.
but there's always community colleges.

i dont think this is worth taking your life for.
community colleges arent that bad actually. and college isnt the end of the world, deciding your fate or anything. it just helps you on what to do in the future and on obtaining a job, start a career, etc.
so yea, try community college first, get high grades and transferr into a reg. college after two years.

and whoa! your taking so many hard AP classes. if you think you cant handle them, its best to drop them instead.

sorry this isn't really helpful but you should DEFINITELY drop some of those AP classes and clubs, its better to take less of those classes and get a better grade than to take them all and let your grade drop like that

plus you still have a year left, take this chance and bring your grade up

You should really consider CCs, their really not that bad. Because as far as your GPA and SAT scores goes, things doesn't look so good right now. Transferring is really beneficial because you can save money and finish all of your GEs. Thats exactly what I did, I went to my local CC (City College of San Francisco) and it turned out to be a great experience. The only danger is that you REALLY have to haul ass, because some of the people at CCs are so laid back and it'll make you want to slack off even more.

Or you can apply to local state universities, but I recommend going to a CC and transfer to a better school

Best of luck to you.

i have finally decided what to do

1. get at least 1700 on my SATS ---the 1270 was the first time i took it, i wasnt really prepared.
2. get like a 3.6 GPA
3. write an admissions essay about my struggles etc etc

im probaly going to apply to like a lesser known university like like eastern, western, washington state, university of pudget sound, etc etc. and then transfer a year later to UW.

i feel better.

like seriously im not stupid just lazy and i went through some problems this year and last year so yeah...

hi Sophia

I just got admitted to UW this year and trust me I've gone through the struggles of being lazy just like you have. Well I've known people who got accepted by UW with slightly less appealing SAT scores/GPA so there is still hope. Just remember to stick to the 3 goals you've set, and remember to apply to other colleges to give yourself some options. Best of luck to you

sdofismdfl DUDE I FEEL YOU.
I wanna go to UW too but I don't feel like my grades are sufficient enough.
My SAT score was pretty bad too...but i'll be planning on taking that over in the fall.

I remember reading up on UW's requirements and they said that you can either submit your SAT or ACT score. I didn't take the ACT this past spring, but I'm planning to take it in the fall. Whatever looks better, I'll submit!

Don't lose hope!

here's what I know about University of Washington:

-They will reject you if you have an N on your transcript. As long as you have no N, then you still have a chance. A classmate of mine got rejected because he had an N on his transcript, even though his sat score was around the 2200 range and he's actually one of the smartest people in the IB Program! Nothing is going to save you if you have an N on your transcript. But maybe there are exceptions.

-UW accepted a girl with an SAT of an 900 range, she took all regular classes with a good GPA, and did really well in community services. It's not a lie. The girl attended my school.

-If UW rejects you, and you appeal, it's about 1% chance that they'll reconsider.

-It's a big lie when they say they like students who "challenge" themselves. I know so many people who took regular classes got accepted and students who took IB classes actually got rejected, because their GPA was low. But I guess these cases varies.

-For UW admissions, they weight the personal statement pretty high. They like to hear stories and they also give you a chance to explain about your grades, and stuff. So writing about your struggles will be good.

Anyways, I don't think you should give up. UW is a good school and it's definately a good deal to go there since it's a lot cheaper compared to the other colleges around here, but there's a lot of other choices. You can alway transfer to UW.

One thing I regret the most is that I DID NOT APPLY for Seattle U. Their classes are a lot smaller, compared to UW and a lot more helpful and provides much more information to freshmens. Their admission office is a lot more friendlier and to me it seems like SU actually cares a lot more to their students than UW does. But that's just my opinion.

GOOD LUCK!

About the third one...I heard it's not good to write in an admissions essay why you did bad in school or whatever.

What are the exceptions on that? Like if you have an N but you retook that class to get a better grade...and that better grade shows with that N?

^ well if you retook a class and got a better grade, then it shows that you changed and is motivated. You can alway explain that in your personal essay on why you recieved that N and why you choose to retake it and how you proved yourself capable of doing the work. I know UW weights the essay pretty high, but they hate to see an N because an N to them means "you didn't try". If you write a well written essay, it could save you. Community Service helps, but I'm not really sure about it either. UW admissions are kinda bipolar...O_o don't have a better word to use. My classmate got rejected and his transcript wasn't all that great. A few people I know got rejected because they got an N on one class, even though their community service was great, they took IB classes, and their SAT was pretty okay.

i suggest you start studying now.. or just pay attention in class. usually, i dont study or do hw at all at home (unless its a report/essay/project that i have to do at home..). i passed 8th grade with straight As throughout the whole year and i didnt even try in class. o_o; (just payed attention for the most part. . thats important!) i'm not sure about high school as of right now, b.c i'm an incoming freshman. btw, i did most of my hw in class or during free time (i had a 20 min session for this- also a good time to go to sleep eheh friends would keep poking though -__-wink.gif.

also, my brother just graduated with a 3.3 gpa and scored a 1780 on his SATs. he got into a state college- UMBC.
this is when he almost failed 10th grade for not going to school for maybe more than half the year. for 11th grade, he slept in class (actually lying down on some chairs and sleeping -o-). finally, for 12th grade, he was late to school almost everyday day, skipping about a pd or two+ and still sleeping in a class! i'm serious! eheh then i started to pick up his habit of being late.. i usually got to school in 1st pd, 3rd at the worst (i was on a 7 pd scehdule).
i think he was failing english ap, so he had to be put in english honors. . and uhm.. he got a lot of Cs and Bs maybe an A or D in there... anyways, he did raise his grades up. o_o; (before it was worse) and for his AP bio test i think he got a 4.

dont think all hope is lost! smile.gif
