1. think of your worst, saddest, most heartwrenching memory. and concetrate on it. if it really affected you, just thinking about it will bring tears.
2. be totally committed and into the scene and your character. you HAVE to feel the pain in the scene and feel what the character would feel if they were real. that's what you're supposed to do if you're a good actor.
3. this is kind of a cheat but it could work sometimes. start fake crying really dramatically, all making the crying sounds and everything, then if you do that, think of the situation in the scene and hopefully the tears will come.

hahahahaha
ive always wanted to cry on command....but its hard...and its something u need a lot of practice with~
the thing about thinking sad thoughts is that you really have to concentrate...its hard to be sad when youre focusing on trying to cry...

watch some sad drama [stairway to heaven, tree of heaven, sad sonata, autumn tale etc] scenes and really pay attention to the actors'/actress' facials and body language.

she was driving one day with her husband and they came upon a box of baby puppies. some of them were already dead, others had deformed body parts. so instead of letting them suffer, she got her husband to get a shotgun and shot the puppies out of their miseries.
usually when you think of an uber sad event, tears will come. haha that story isnt real, but it gets me everytime

i figure..
okay. you know there's different types of acting right?
one where you BECOME the character you're playing by preparing yourself emotionally & mentally
and another where you act like the person because of the situation .. (kinda hard to explain, but this part isnt important)
so once you become the character, right?
you're actually going through those things, not merely acting them out
and then when the script says you have to cry, you might even feel like crying because you're .. actually going through it you know?
if that's not enough, think of the saddest memory on top of that.
that's my advice..
