I think that that's fine, I only filled out four smile.gif But I think it depends on how many of those are your reach schools, average schools, and your safety schools. I knew someone who applied to 18 colleges because she applied to alot of reach schools.

I applied to 16 schools. (A lot of reach schools)

A reach school is one where you basically fit the middle 50 percentile or lower of the entering freshman class.

For me it was one of those schools that would just be pleasing and fun to say I actually was able to get into (eg Georgetown, UChicago, Brown, UPenn, WUSTL)

I applied to 5 schools. It is pricey to apply for colleges. So don't try to apply to too many schools. Apply to ones you really want to get in and have a couple of safeties.

I don't know how many I'll apply to because right now I'm really only interested in 3 colleges right now =A=;;
But my counselor told me to apply to about 9-14ish

Here's what he told us:
Have at least 2 "backup school" in case you don't get anywhere. (For me, UCR or CSULB)
Have at least 2 "dream school" that you wish you can go to, but will be hard. (For example, Harvard or Yale)
Have at least 4 "goal school" that you think you can get into (For me, UCLA or UCI)

Sorry my example for backup school and goal school is all California, I don't think I'll go out of state and I don't really know any other colleges ;;

Also even though it's a lot of colleges make sure they're ones you actually would go to because, applications run about $60 each I think.

I applied to four.
One in my hometown and would actually get in.
Another just half an hour away and could actually get in.
And then two I wasn't too sure of but really wanted to be in.
I got into them all. ;P

Hmm ... The price can get pretty hefty after you apply to a lot of schools ...

I think 2-3 safeties, 2-3 averages, and about 2-3 reach would be good. So around 6-9 ...

I'm applying to 11, maybe 12.

1 absolute safety, 1 pretty sure I can get it, but not secure enough as a safety ^^;, 6 matches/low reach LOL, 3 high reach/dream, and maybe harvard, which i have yet to decide whether it's worht the 65$ app. fee, since i'm already going for princeton and yale, which are slightly less over-rated than harvard.

Although my guidance counseler suggests only 6-7, but since money isn't a problem for me i'm going to apply to more lower reach schools where i have a >50% chance of getting accepted.

lol wow u guys are wasting ur time applying to that many schools. i applied to 5: duke, northwestern, washu, emory, and wisconsin. all of them except wisconsin use the commonapp so i really only filled out 2 applications.

i kinda wish i didnt apply to duke or northwestern since i didnt get into either which is a darn shame. i got into the other 3 though, so i'm going to washu. oh yeah DO NOT APPLY TO EMORY they give the worst financial aid packages imaginable.

I think five is an okay number of schools to apply to. A lot of schools use the common app, but remember to read and check carefully because there could be other forms along with the comm app that the school needs. Some schools only use their form so look out for that too. I applied to ten, which may seem like a lot, but I found out that it's actually common.

My parents who don't care that much about my education are making me apply to all the really top teir schools... they saw that they can afford that XD Makes you wonder how paradoxical everything is =P But I'm going to convince them it's a waste of money....

But when I apply, I want to apply to Georgetown early action, and hopefully not have to apply to any other schools because that is my definite #1 choice.

Then I just have to pay Georgetown's fee and nothing else... YAY! And I could get over with it all in December of my senior year rather than have to wait for the suspense in April. (But then if I get deferred.......... Oh I'm in a world of hurt...)
