minor question about CUNY application question is about admissions essay

hello! I am applying a CUNY for saftey..and I just wanted to be certain that an admissions essay is NOT part of the applying process. In other words, I do NOT have to send an essay b/c it is neither mandatory nor optional. Correct? please correct me if i'm wrong. spanks a bunches

*side note: good luck to all the 2006 seniors!!

also.....do I send a letter of recommendation? It is not mentioned on the application.
