They're like a better, more talented/creative & diverse version of Linkin Park. They were actually one of LP's biggest influences. I made a thread for them somewhere around here.
and nothing to doubt.

is the best band ever. They categorize themselves as "Alternative", but it's more of a mix between rock and goth metal. Lead singer Amy Lee (err...Amy Lee Hartzler) sings with emotion in every song, and not every song is one of those lovey-dovey songs, which is another thing why I love them.
Here are some favorites: Haunted, Field of Innocence, Going Under, Before the Dawn, Even In Death, Sweet Sacrifice, Lithium, The Only One, Snow White Queen...
...well, I can go on and on with the list...
but you just have to listen to Haunted!
I will find a way even without wings.

do you have itunes? if so, you can click "itunes essentials" on the main page to bring up a section that's just a bunch of official itunes playlists divided by genre, style, era, artist, etc. and even within those playlists, the songs are separated into three categories: basic/popular, advanced, and really obscure. when i'm bored, i seek those out and click on the songs to listen to the 30-second samples until i find something that sounds catchy. you can check out the "mainstream rock" playlist to start
and for specific bands... try muse, they're great. and ^ i like evanescence too, although like with LP i get made fun of the worst for admitting that.

Well, I'm sure someone mentioned Death Cab for Cutie
Then there's the Postal Service, not sure if you've heard of them. The vocalist for this band is for Death Cab too.
Augustana is pretty good too ^^
But those are kind of like soft rock-ish.

The Blood brothers are a rock band. How are they not? Have you listened to them?
And to the topic starter I would only recommend blood brothers from that list but you dont like hardcore music, so I would recommend Death cab for cutie, Pinback, The American Analog Set, The Postal Service, The Arcade Fire, Minus the Bear, Copeland, The Beatles, Nada Surf, Modest Mouse, The Shins, Rilo Kiley.......

Explosions in the Sky
Of Montreal (Very experimental / poppy / electronica sound. Takes a LONG time getting used to but it grows on you)

Yes. I agree.
But like someone else mentioned, Evanescence.
AND (they`re Finnish, but that the hell..) HIM. I love them. I`m pretty much obsessed.
Check `em out (they call themselves "Love Metal" (something they made up), but ibasically it`s rock/goth/alt/(in some songs) metal). REALLY GOOD. I love them!!

Coldplay (my #1)
Rooney (tied with coldplay, reminds me of a modern version of the Beatles)
Maroon 5 (more pop rock)
The Killers (second album is better)
Jet (love their sound)
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Fall Out Boy (pop rock again)
...I stress Coldplay and Rooney
