using unweighted GPAs, 3.7 = A-, 4.0 = A
so someone with a 3.75 has slightly above an A- average.

I mean I've done so much volunteering.. but all I have right now predicting ahead at the end of Grade 12 would be:
Guitar - 3 years.
Badminton Club - 2 years (Club closed)
Key Club - 1 year (Damn it I should've really joined in Gr 11)
Leadership/Student Council - 2 years
HIB Leadership (International Baccalaureate leadership) - 2 years
I've done numerous amounts of volunteering, I'm sure volunteering is based on hours. Not consistency as that should be ECs instead.
What do you guys think? How important is it really. Assuming that I have 90-95% average in my courses and by the end of Grade 12, most likely 400-500 hours of volunteer service. And this is applying to ANY Canadian university except Queens, McGill or Waterloo. I pretty much want to target UBC and UoT.

I think your ECs are boring. Nothing really stands out to me. Try to gain officer positions this year in a couple of them as an added boost. Your involvement in volunteer work should make up for the dull ECs, especially if it's unique, but I still stand that you should at least have one officer position in a club.
Good luck.

Some points I would like to make because of my poor ECs for Americans.
-I live in a small town and go to a small school.
-We are not like the US with hundreds of random clubs.
-We actually have a total of 5 clubs in my school.
-My town is labeled as a dead town because of the lack of things to do here.
-I'm not a sports guy.
-I hate bands. I prefer to play Guitar.
-I am not trying to attend UCLA or UC Berkeley. So why do my ECs have to be so elite and innovative?
-Canadian universities are very much different than American Universities.
Edit:
I just received an email from my IB Coordinator stating that I shouldn't listen to American students since as said, our Canadian schools are really different.
Anyway thanks for your input you two.

i think it's always academics first. if ur scores and such are stellar. then ECs are obviously less important. so how are ur scores?
---
dull clubs or not, try to spice up your essay. find an interesting perspective for one of ur ECs or something. but don't complain.
---
sorry if all of this is common sense. but I just really wanted to post and say 'it's alright. calm down. think carefully bout every part of ur app. and u'll be good." haha.

I do them only in school and have a job at a store, but I don't volunteer.
So far, my ECs are:
Graphics Editor for school's art & literary magazine (2007-2010)
College Partnership Program (2007-2010)
Anime Club (2006-2010)
Institute for the Arts (Summer 2008)
Counselor for IB Connections Summer Camp (2007-2008)
French Club (2007-2010)/French Honor Society (2008-2010)
Oh, and how should I study for the ACTs and SATs?
I use the official book, but I get low scores and it doesn't help me much... ><;;;
I'm worried that I might not have time to study because I'm in full IB.
The colleges I want to go to usually accept students who get a 1950-2000 on the SATs, and 22-28 on ACTs.

Volunteering is not more important than a job. In fact, I would deem a job more important than volunteering. Admission officers love to see kids holding down a job and the experiences you gain from having a job you can't get anywhere else. I.e. how to deal with people, interviews, meeting your boss, etc. Not many kids, especially those chasing after top-notch schools, hold down a job so when they are 20 years old, they are inexperienced to the real world which they should have some taste of when they were younger.
Studying for the SATs and ACTs? Well, are you more of a motivated self-study person or a person who lacks motivation to study? If you are the latter, I suggest looking into SAT/ACT preparation classes instead.
What I recommend is to study in chunks throughout the day, daily:
★ 30 minutes in the morning, 30 minutes during lunch, 30 minutes mid-afternoon, and 30 minutes at night
This approach is much healthier than studying 2 hours a night as it helps you retain the information more easily.
Just keep at it with those practice SAT/ACT tests, ask your Math/English teacher on why you the answer for a certain question is wrong, and improve your weaknesses on the tests.
Good luck.

At our school, honors isn't weighted and AP classes can only be taken in Junior/Senior year. >__>; And I took World History Honors and got a B...
So now my GPA is 3.8.
When I was a freshmen, my GPA was 3.9
On top of that, I took a summer class and got a B (Chemistry). If I take Chemistry again and get an A, will it erase my B?
For my junior, I plan on not slacking off, procrastinating, etc. and getting at least a 4.1 GPA. Will my sophomore/freshmen year and Chemistry grade look THAT bad?
& how do weighted GPAs work? Is it overall, from freshmen to junior, or is it just junior year?
I know I shouldn't have slacked off this summer..
Planning to Apply @:
UCLA
UCB
UCSD
UCD
UCI
