not sure if i should ask this here, but how important is SAT 2 for UC's?
i've only taken 2 subjest tests
math 2c: 660
bio: 490/ 460
and i really don't want to take it again during december
i know for sure that i won't do so well on the bio test if i take it again.

i have a question. if i have taken over 60 units at a community college (i'm a full time high school student. senior now) b/c i started taking courses since 8th grade.. and have received an award to Phi Theta Kappa society due to my GPA (which is like a 3.7 ish at the community college)

is that a plus? (basically, should i include it in my essay?)

and for uc's, where am i most likely to get in with a

GPA of 3.8 (UW)/4.5 (W)
SAT of 2080.

i live in cali btw.

my sat score is so low.. i don't really understand it.. --'' *sigh* hopefully december's will look nicer...

What's the point of this thread?

"Get higher SATs."
"Your grades are too low."
"No way."

Unless this is Soompi's ingenious way of concentrating spam. Good job!

Haha seriously. Not trying to provoke anyone for a fight, but I've only seen baehana replying with proper "what are my chances" responses.

GoongLovexx: Based on when my two cousins applied to NYU, your GPA is good. But your SAT scores are lacking a little bit. Without the writing, it might be a stretch. Your ECs could be better, and you lack the large amount of community service a lot of people have. Hopefully your two SAT IIs scores are good, and I'm assuming you're applying regular. I'd say it might be a little (or a lot) hard to get in due to the vast quantity of people who always apply to NYU. It might be a reach for you.

Well from what I`ve seen from my friends, who have gotten C's on their report cards and have a SAT score of less that 2100 and still got into NYU, you have a good chance. Btw, NYU is not that hard to get into compared to PENN.

Hi

IMO, it's all about the person. You don't have to have community service if you have devoted your interests elsewhere (GoongLovexx, for example, has the lead in the spring musicial). If those interests define who you are, focus on that.

Thanks everyone!
Yeah I did write about the musical since I have been devoted to it for four years in my short answer.
I am re-taking the SATs in December with the hopes that both my math and reading improve, and I am not sure about my SAT IIs.

About my ECs: I recently decided to partake in a group called Partners in Equality which is a multi-cultural type program run on the Naval Air Station where my mom works. My mom's friend needed some help so I volunteered. (I needed community service anyway haha) So I am listing that as an activity too. It probably won't up my chances that much, but it could help. >.<

Also, my average for this quarter is a 95, and my grades have improved alot this year, and I believe the schools look at the first semester of senior year. I am hoping to move up in rank and GPA by the end of this semester.

I think I just need to do amazing with the short answers and essay. ahh >.<

i think st.johns should be safe, brooklyn should be ok, not familiar with union college;
your scores are good for stony, but i heard their medical program is more competitive?

as for cornell and columbia, ur score/transcript is on the low side, but won't keep you out.
And very few APs.

you have a lot of activities; definitely pick the most important ones to talk about, otherwise the app will be too dilute. your service activites are great.

write some brilliant essays!

It doesn't matter if your school does not offer many AP classes. Colleges look at the school you come from and take that into account. They look at your class rank, they look at your SAT score and compare you with others applying from your school. They realize that every school is different, that's why they have standardized testing, so there's an easier scale upon which to measure you all against.
Don't trip out because you didn't take thirty five and a quarter AP classes junior year like every other Asian and their mother. It's generic, It's boring. It's fake.
Don't take classes just to get into college. You'll end up having no idea what you really want to do in life, because you'll just be used to trying to get good grades like a robot and you won't have any real passion for anything.

Okay, basically, I don't know what to do. T_T
I am NOT a leader, I don't do well with public speaking/speeches, and I am not athletic/sporty at all.
I'm in clubs and CSF, and I have an okay GPA.
The only thing I'm good at is giving my friends advice and comforting them when they're feeling down.
But you can't get anywhere with that.
How unfortunate.

Don't get it in your head that you NEED all these accolades to get into college. Those are all generic and frankly boring. Everybody and their mother is some club member or leader or something. Just focus on getting good grades and get a good SAT score and you're on the same playing field as everyone else.
Don't be a generic cookie cutter Asian. Elite colleges reject them like the plague.
