Depends on your race.
1) Asian or Caucasian -> state school
2) Black or Latino -> UC Irvine/ Santa Barbara/ the lower ucs.

are you intentionally trying to sound abrasive & condescending?
(i'm not trying to start a fight here. i'm honestly asking out of curiosity)
personally, i think this thread doesnt do squat.
who are we to try to guess where we're gonna get in & where we're not?
i mean, the admission process is as a fickle as they come.
after the application's been turned in, its all fate (and luck)
besides, looking at other people's stellar stats might make you completely lose confidence in yourself anyhow

No, honey. You get in by merit, and/or skin color. There is no luck about it. No fate about it. People post up their merits, and what they have accomplished so far, we compare it to others who have already gotten in, and gauge their chances accordingly. It's logical. And it gives you a pretty good idea of your chances, or lack thereof.
And learn to recognize trolling.

your GPA is amazing
your SATs could use a little work, but your GPA makes up for it
your classes are very rigorous, but i see that almost all of them are Honors or APs
the classes you took dont really show what your interests are, just makes you seem like every stereotypical Asian who just signs up for all the hard classes
ECs are godd too, but again same issue with your classes, doesnt really show who you are and what your interests are
i think with a good essay, you should be able to make it, but i suggest your essay really show your interests since all your other stuff doesnt really show who you are
thanks for the reply! but my only interest is biology ._. hahah i'll work on my essay ><

Affirmative action.

Affirmative action. If you are latino or black, you actually get a boost in your GPA and SAT scores (~200) in the eyes of admission officers. If you are asian you actually lose points on the SAT (~200) as well as with your GPA.

I should point out that Affirimative action is banned for California (research Prop 209) public universities. In fact, a UC Berkeley admissons officer told me that when reading an application, the application does not show the race of the applicant, regardless if you fill out your race. The admissions officer is not allowed to see that race.
However, I have to be fair by saying that there are some people who do believe that admissions officers in California still carry affirimative-action-like mindsets, based
on the stereotypes that set the bar on what is fit for applicants from specific ethnic groups. This is especially easy to do if you have a last name which implies you are from a specific minority (i.e. Asian last names are quite obvious).
Here's an UCB Asian-American news-magazine article criticizing that mindset: http://hardboiled.berkeley.edu/issues/102/102.pdf (see page 4).

WHOOPS DOUBLE POST.
well anyhow, I would always take the whole "California banned affirmative action" with a grain of salt.
At the same time, by stating that California public universities uses that SAT point system to judge applicants, without any source, should be viewed with skepticism (I'm willing to be proven wrong on this note, but I've never heard anything as outrageous as this SAT statement).

And also, if the universities did not use the SAT point system to judge applicants, why would they even request them?

While they can make assumptions on what the applicant's race is based on his/her last name, that would make race become a factor for UC applicants, and that is illegal under Prop 209. Imagine the UC admission officers placing race as a factor in the SATs! Using that point system WITH RACE! Losing points if you are Asian and have a high SAT and GPA! Now that really goes beyond Prop 209.
You still haven't provided me a source saying this currently happens to UCs, although your source implies it has possibly happened in the past before Prop 209 was passed. I'm looking for a source where you claim it currently happens to UCs.
I'm not going to argue about other schools (or private schools within CA), since that's a topic for another day, and not all those schools have something like Prop 209.
If you are curious about some UCs point system in terms of freshmen eligibility, here's UC Davis. http://admissions.ucdavis.edu/admissions/f...ion_process.cfm
But yes, I do believe UC admissions officers can carry stereotypes of certain races which raises the definition of what is an acceptable applicant, considering the thousands of applications they have to read. However, I don't believe it is accurate to claim that they use a RACIAL point system for SATs and GPAs. They have a point system, but RACIAL? I'm not going to argue about other schools (or private schools within CA), since that's a topic for another day, and not all those schools have something like Prop 209.

people need to stop assuming that you have to take honors to get into a good school
your gpa is affected for public schools such as UCs because they have their own system
privates usually have unweighted system, but consider the courses you take
asian parents are the sad victims to this belief of only honors classes will get you into a good school
they dont understand that its about taking classes/activities that suit your interests that show your best qualities as a student
but taking no honors classes is also bad

Because I received low scores :
550 in Biology E
590 in Literature
But I didn't know if I should re-take them in January because NYU says they cannot guarantee that January scores will be received in time.
Are my chances significantly lower because of these SAT IIs?
