I'm about 5'6...& i'm considered to be short for my age~

I play basketball a lot with my friends

& I always have to work hard to guard the bigger guys.

I usually beat most of the people I play...

but it seems like the ones that do beat me are always the tall ones that can dunk...

I hate to admit it, but sometimes i think my friends are right when they say size DOES matter...

& i'm not talking about just basketball...other sports too...

Do you think size matters? =/

Wow.. 5 6 is short... than what am i wahhh (i wouldnt mind being 5 6 : D) ><" okie back to your question DOES SIZE MATTER?

i think that if you are taller you can get an advantage in most sports... if youre tall youll most likely have a lot more power too.. im short and i try to play tennis and for ex.. if we were volleying the tall person would be able to move faster and get better volleys have more strength than the shorter person(me wahh).. but of course skill matters too...

i saw this i think brazilian guy or something play federer and he was seriously a giant but he wasnt as agile as federer and he didnt have enough experience it seemed like to me in this game with federer his height wasnt helping him at all....

so i think size can give you more of an advantage in most sports but seriously, though this sounds CLICHE.. as long as you try your best no matter what and really strive for it youll be better than any tall dude... ehehe thats just what i think..^^

also i remember flipping through the channels one day and hehe srry but not a real basketball fan but i saw this program on like th 100 greatest moment s of madison square garden... and it was when this pretty short guy served michael jordan and dunked a shot in... he leaped likee what seemed like his whole body to make that shot it looked like he was flying... and scored while m.j. was trying to block him... and just like him if you really want it anything can happen : )

SO just becausre youre short (I STILL dnt think 5 6is short btw lol~~) dnt feel that youll lose to the tall ppl... make them not look down on you because of your height.... Show them HOW T A L L you really are XD

For basketball height and strength do matter a bit. One of my friends I think is 5'6 or 5'7 and although he's quick... it doesn't matter too much if you're quick and shorter when others can just block your shot.
Sports in general, you want a longer reach, and the shorter you are the shorter your wingspan and reach are. So yes overall too height matters. Although I'm not so sure it's as important in tennis and golf.

some sports suit certain body heights better

like in gymnastics, its ideal to be short and compact because its easier to balance, tumble, and flip

Most sports require size. For example in basketball or football, if you don't have the size you have to be faster and quicker than everybody else. Water sports aren't as dependent on height but it gives you an advantage if you're taller. For running, having longer legs help because shorter people have to work twice as hard to run just as much distance. The only sport I know that height doesn't give you an advantage is gymnastics.

you need to be short in gymnastics to have an advantage. low center of gravity will give you more balance.

there is exception to every sport though... like spudd web.

I don't think size matters. It's all about your skills. All size does is give you advantage, but if a tall guy doesn't have the skills, he isn't much. Look at past players like Mugsy Bogues and then look at tall dudes like Gheorghe Muresan.

I'm 5'6" myself and back when I used to play 2-on-2 streetball during my senior year of high school, my friend did all the shooting and rebounding, while I did all the stealing and assisting. We were killers.
The only thing that makes sense about life is death.

well in my sports sizes doesnt really matter. im 5'5 n can hang with black people in college in track n trust me they are tall. i ran against a 6"3 guy from missouri n i beat him in the last stright away. i think in case of basketball yes size does matter but in some sports it doesnt. in track u need to be determined to work hard n build urself up.

If it makes you feel better, there have been 3 NBA players at your height or shorter: Spud Webb (5'6), Earl Boykins (5'5), and Muggsy Bogues (5'3). And all of them are (Boykins still plays) considered top notch point guards with accomplished careers.

I think if you know how to use your size then it really doesn't matter. If you are short and quick and in basketball, it can be an advantage. I'm 5'10 myself and theres times when I play basketball at the gym against people who in 6'+ and you just gotta learn to adjust your game to it. I can still grab some boards here and there because I can time myself and stuff, its a matter of just figuring out how to play to your advantage.

Yea, that's what I'm saying. I can get lots of rebounds and all that, but I just have to work harder than the taller players. It takes a lot out of my stamina~ but training always helps.

Ya size does matter. Especially for Division 1A NCAA colleges. For USC football, they scout for high school seniors that are atleast 6'3, unless you were an all state player or something. Transferring from other colleges make it easier when they prove that they can go against guys bigger than them.
