Hi, I'm just wondering if you guys could give me some suggestions/recommendations on AP prep books. These are the APs that I'll be taking next year.

AP Calculus BC
AP Biology
AP Environmental Science

Thanks a lot! smile.gif

I'll also be taking Ap Biology next year, and thanks to what the HUH (who received a score of 5), informed me that you should study from the Cliffs Ap Biology book. And to get the most recent one. And for the other two subjects, you should go to the Ap thread and ask the people who passed. They might help you even more with some tips or two. Hope that helps. And good luck-not that you'd need it!

I used Cliffs for AP Bio and also got a 5. I also read only parts of the book because I didnt like the other parts, which is bad, read the entire book! I only crammed 2-3 weeks ahead of the exam, but it would be all day after school until the library closed. A week before the AP bio test I took the SAT II Bio M test, I used Barron's to help me study for that. I suggest getting two different books. I don't really like the diagrams in the Cliffs prep book, so look around at the bookstore.

So basically...the bio AP test's curve is very low and you can seriously go into the test knowing nothing and still pass.

For Calc BC, I got a 5 and I didn't use any test books. My teacher started prepping us right after spring break, which is what you should probably do as well since BC covers a lot. Google "mr. calculus" online and do all the practice FR that you can get.

please do not PM me asking me to close threads, etc! i am no longer a mod! ^^ thanks!

i used the princeton rvw AP Bio book, and i passed the test w/ a 3 ... kind of a mediocre score, but i'm really grateful & happy because only 6 people passed from my school this yr.

i'm selling the PR AP Bio book, btw, so if you want it just give me a PM =]

for calc BC... do not... repeat... do not get the REA

it didn't help in terms of review; it was just listings of formulas and really really brief notes; most of the tests are for calc AB

i barely used it; notes and practice from school tests were sufficient enough for me

Thanks for the great tips! Yeah, it seems like Cliffs and Barron are the best ones for Bio. I heard PR is good for Calc BC. Is that true?

rockydonnatelli: APUSH is the only AP exam I've taken so far. My teacher "required" us to get AMSCO "United States History: Preparing for the Advanced Placement Examination". The summary is pretty good and the difficulty of the practice questions are reasonable. The only thing that's a bit inconvenient is that the answer key is on a separate booklet. So you might have to purchase that booklet separately. I haven't seen the prep book in any book stores so you have to order it online. I also did some practice tests out of the PR book. But those questions are fairly easy. I ended up scoring a 4 with all the practice. A bit disappointing. Oh well...

For AP Calc BC, I used McGraw Hill...but I studied the day before. If your teacher prepares you well for it, you only need it to look over and review. I got a 5 on it too. smile.gif

For AP Calc AB & BC, my teacher required everyone to buy Barron's.

I've heard that Barron's prepares you the best.
The practice tests in Barron's are actually harder than the actual test, so it assures that you're prepared. smile.gif

like some other ppl here, i used Cliff's AP Biology.. the most recent one. it helped a lot throughout the year, when i wanted to just quickly study something during lunch. i didn't use it to study for the actual AP exam though. oh, and i got a 5. biggrin.gif
