Looks like Apple fanboys weren't too pleased with the announcement of the first iPod when it first came out 6 years ago.

Little did they know it would become the best selling MP3 player.

Check out this site:

Here's some favorites haha

QUOTE
Sounds very revolutionary to me.

hey - heres an idea Apple - rather than enter the world of gimmicks and toys, why dont you spend a little more time sorting out your pathetically expensive and crap server line up?
or are you really aiming to become a glorified consumer gimmicks firm?

QUOTE
Great just what the world needs, another freaking MP3 player. Go Steve! Where's the Newton?!

QUOTE
It's now at the online Apple Store!

$400 for an Mp3 Player!

I'd call it the Cube 2.0 as it wont sell, and be killed off in a short time...and it's not really functional.

Uuhh Steve, can I have a PDA now?

QUOTE
There are already two products similar to this on the market. The Nomad Jukebox and the Archos Jukebox which can come with a 20 gig HD. The iPod is obviously alot cooler and has firewire, but it is far from revolutionary. I for one am disappointed and think that apple is making a mistake by trying to get into this market.

QUOTE
Any way you spin this it is:
1. Not revolutionary. Big capacity mp3 players already exist. With Creative Labs' entrance into the firewire arena, future nomads will have similar specs and better prices.
2. A bad fit. This product is outside Apple's core competancy - computing devices. When many are calling for a pda, they release an MP3 player.
3. Without a future. This Christmas you will see mp3 players be commoditized. Meaning that the players from Korea will be way less expensive tha iPod. The real money is in DRM and distribution (ala Real Musicnet). If Apple were smart they would be focusing on high gross revenue from services rather than a playback device.

I do remember when it first came out, it wasn't even a hit at the Macworld Expo (instead they focused their new products... I didn't care for it at the time, because the price wasn't justifying it, nor did having a hard drive based player back then. I remember my using my Sony Minidisc player back then... heck I even had a Apple Newton PDA LOL.

The first generation wasn't even compatible with PC (thats why I never cared about it)... Mac only, i guess that one of the factors. The second generation, I think was also Mac only, but there were third party companies that made it possible for the iPod to link to the PC. By the third and fourth generations, it was flying off the shelves...

But the first iPods were so ugly and expensive... I also hated that they were for Macs only...

Hahaha unlike the fanboys I was extremely pro iPod at first.
After owning one... ehhhh it's not the worst thing in the world but the screw ups now and then really annoys me hahaha especially when it decides to freeze and I have to format everything.

I think I only really knew about that ipod after gen3 ipods were out... I was so close to getting a 15gb one... even now I think the Gen3 ipods are nice lol. My position then and now remain the same, too expensive for a mp3 player.

Considering how all those people made very valid points... this only means Apple does an amazing job of marketing.

most mac users back then that used online forums were hard core computer or server oriented. So the results are kinda scaled.

i thought that when i first saw the ipod. it's big, bulky, and not attractive.
it got popular when EVERYONE and their mom started carrying one at my uni.
i write an important thing, and do not let's finish. a way of writing for freedom.
