Hello,

So my Dad recently rebooted my computer (is rebooted the right word? basically, he reinstalled everything b/c our computer went weird), but now the sound doesn't work. The speakers are plugged in, but the computer doesn't detect that it's plugged in? When I go under control panel, it says I have no sound device. o__o; My Dad's too busy to fix this, so he just told me to reinstall the driver? I have no idea what that means. help? D:

*I have Windows XP.

If you still have the CDs that came with your computer, motherboard or sound card. The CD probably come with a sound driver. A driver is software that is needed for the device installed on your comp to work properly.

If you lost The CDs that came with your computer or sound card. You need to find out what model and brand your sound card is then go to the brands site and look for the driver download page, download the driver, find the right version of the driver like "winxp, mac, linux" download the windows xp driver if your using a windows xp computer. then install the driver, and your sound should be back.

Where'd you get yet your computer? Do you know the manufacturer of your computer (DELL, HP, GATEWAY, etcetc)?

Device Manager (WIN key + Pause/Break) is something like this?

You can ask your dad what brand and model of sound card is in your computer. If you still have the box or manual for your computer or sound card. Your sound card brand and model might be listed in the manual. Phone Costumer service and ask them to help you find out what sound card you have.

If you can't find the sound card manufactuer from your dad, manuals, or other sources . You can try Belarc Advisor pc hardware lister program: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

and look under the multimedia when your done installing the program and it should tell you what soundcard your using.
