I've been on a diet for quite some time now. I've lost some, though not enough. This morning my mom told me that too much fruits can still make u fat since they contain a high level of sugar, even though they're natual. But I've always heard that it takes more calories to burn them than the calories that they have. In that case, isn't it perfectly ok to stuff myself with fruits?

Even though fruits contain sugar, it's not the same kind as table sugar or the kinds you find in lots of commercial products. Fruit sugar is natural and puts less stress on your body than sweeteners like high fructose corn syrup. Eating fruits is more beneficial because of the vitamins, and it also helps the body restore its natural balance. And yes, most fruits do take more calories to digest than how much is actually in it.

Eating a lot of fruit isn't bad, it's not going to make you gain weight. But you have to make sure you're getting enough protein & other vitamins from other sources of food. Hope that helps.

i don't think eating too much fruit is bad.
but i think it all depends on what kind of fruit it is.
but maybe if you want to shed some pounds.
then maybe try some grapefruit or oranges
after every meal? i heard that it cleans all the fat
in your stomach :)

I suppose eating a diet with only fruits wouldn't be super healthy since there are other nutrients the body needs that fruits can't provide. People say that eating a lot of fruits can be fattening, but I think if you eat a decent amount won't make you gain weight since there are other foods you could be eating that have a lot more calories (like candy)... It's not like you're lounging about all day and only eating fruits - you're doing your daily activities and eating fruits...

ditto.
even though fruits have natural sugar, sugar is still sugar. most of the candies and things we eat that are bad for us are high in fructose corn syrup, and fructose is natural, so that is a bit misleading. and though i can`t imagine someone getting fat off eating apples, there are plenty of other natural foods besides fruits that your body needs. if you`re trying to lose weight, i suggest eating foods high in fiber to keep you full throughout the day. broccoli is pretty darn good for that. plus it`s high in antioxidants and vitamins while devastatingly low in calories. overall i think vegetables have higher nutritional values than do fruit, though i must admit fruits taste a whole lot better :S.

haha, but yeah. fruits aren't bad. there are just better things out there.
[[ but on the flip side, there are worse things out there too ]].

Everything in moderation. Too much fruits is bad, because even though they are healthy, they do of course contain calories and sugar.

i think its dependent on your definition of excessive.
i do agree with your mom though. eating too much fruit may hinder your fat loss progress depending on which fruits you eat. some fruits contain high levels of fructose. although its a natural version of fructose, fructose being a simple sugar (carb), can be quickly converted to fat if not metabolized. on the other hand, the nutrients found in most fruits outweigh the fact that it contains high levels of fructose.
personally, i wouldn't recommend eating more than 4 servings of fruit daily if you're try to lose fat.
also, there is no such thing as a fruit that takes more calories to digest than it contains.

some fruits have a high amount of fructose in them, so i suggest leaning more towards vegetables for stuffing yourself, with some fruit on the side, nuts are also excellent, especially almonds yummmm

Think of the PH scale in your body, each fruits contain different things for you. Too much of one thing isn't that bad but it also needs to be balance out too. =)

it's scientifically proven that eating too much fruits can lead to diabetes
even if the sugar isn't bad for you, they do contain high amounts of it

eat lots of fruits like strawberry; they contain low level of sugar and all that junk..
along with cherries; eating a lot of them won't do harm to you

DONT eat too much bananas; one equals to like a dozen strawberries

TOO much of anything, to me, is bad. Since "too" goes beyond limits, doesn't it? Er.
A lot of something healthy, however, is okay.

Too much of anything is bad for you.

Even water.

A couple years ago, on the news, there was a story about this one girl who only drank water and a little bit of milk and only ate vegetables and her brain started to swell. It was really weird.

True. It's the opposite of dehydration.. you have too much water and not enough of anything else (salt, especially), and you could die. o.O Of course this is in extreme circumstances.

Just make sure you're eating a balanced diet. I would also suggest eating more vegetables instead. Celery is awesome, very high in fiber and "negative" calories. Make sure you're getting enough protein as well. I don't eat much red meat, so I usually go for chicken, lean pork, and lots of tofu and green leafy veggies (like spinach).

In moderation. Fruit has calories too.
Even though fruit is good and a good diet food.
They add up.
