I'm getting braces tomorrow..

ㅜ_ㅜ

Apparently I'm getting braces with metal parts that are white or see through, I forgot. -__-
I guess that makes it better, but ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ I don't want braces!
I have pretty straight teeth, but I sorta wanted braces (four months ago) so my DENTIST parents are getting me braces.
I've already had headgear for my slight overbite for about 2-3 months now. AHHHH.
Does it hurt A LOT? For how long? Does food get stuck REALLY easily? My parents won't tell me because I'll complain even more.

Share braces stories. And...hugs will be nice.

how old r u?..btw..braces are good if u want to lose weight...hahaha. But yea, they are EXTREMELY painful, at least for me. But they hurt in an annoying way. I don't know if that makes sense, but from my personal experience, it's like having a bad tooth when i was little. except it's all your teeth.

well it will hurt for the first few months when you tighten it.. but you will get used to it.
the results are worth it smile.gif

bohemian.affair-
I'm 13.
...oh shyt, sounds horrible. ㅠㅠ
Oh okay LOL

paperbunny-
Okay, finally, something positive. Yeah, my friend recently took off her braces and man, she looks so different.
I'll buy a handheld mirror, I guess, and make the best of it ;___;
Is it hard to take it out, though?

it depends on how bad your teeth are..
when i first got braces, it hurt like crazy for three days &painkillers didn`t help much ><
after that, you get really used to it. but idk why i`m saying this because you probably already got them by now --;;;

hey!

i have braces, but i'm prolly get them off soon^^
i was your age when i got braces and i had them for two years.
it doesnt hurt when you get them on, but after an hour or so,
you'll start to feel the pain kicks in. BUT THAT'S NORMAL.
its just that your teeth are starting to shift. which is a good thing^^
if your teeth start to hurt or bother you, just take painkillers,
drink cold water, or cold milk. it'll help reduce the pain.
if you have an over bite (where the top row of your teeth are protruding outwards)
you'll have to wear rubberbands (same goes with under bite)
if you're ever given these, MAKE SURE YOU WEAR THEM!! if you want your braces off
i learned the hard way, and didnt really use them much and that added like three
months more of wearing them, and trust me, they're annoying.

haha i hope i didnt scare you. oh, and if you get an expander...
get ready for some pain when they take it off. crazy.gif

i just got my braces off last friday! rolleyes.gif

I recommend taking Tylenol right when you get your braces. They will starting hurting soon because your teeth will be experiencing tightness and pressure. You will have a hard time eating. The pain lasted for about 3-5 days for me. I could not chew, I had to use my tongue to smush the food. In the long run you will have nice straight teeth with a beautiful smile!

ergh at least you're getting braces at the proper age
I'm going into my 2nd year of college and I JUST got braces this summer. I played flute pretty seriously since elementary school so I didn't want them, but my teeth are so crooked I finally decided to get them. And because I go to college on the other side of the country I go to the dentist every single week to get them tightened so I can hurry up the process.

Honestly though- it doesn't hurt that much. It's a little saddening because I can't...chew as well, so a lot of foods are difficult for me to eat, but that's probably because my braces are constantly being tightened, but the pain was really only bad in the very very beginning when I got them placed on. When I get them tightened they only hurt for a couple hours before the pain subsides.

at first it hurts for a bit, but it's not all that bad. and occasionally you'd come back to get it tightened and it'll hurt for a couple of times but after that you'll get used to it. the results are worth it, imo. don't be afraid! lol take a rissk.

Okay, Tylenol. I'm guessing that it will become my best friend for a while.

What's an expander?
And are painkillers like Tyrenol?

I think you're talking about ceramic braces, and monchichi is talking about clear rubber band things in your braces. Ceramic braces are white-ish and larger than normal metal braces, but they blend in more so it looks like you're just wearing a retainer. I have them, and they're not stained. Even if they get a little yellow, then it just blends in with your teeth more. xD If you actually are getting ceramic braces, you should get the grayish ligatures (I think thats what the rubber bands are called). I think the color is smoke or something.

i had my braces for like a year and a half...mine didn't hurt that much but i guess it just depends on how crooked your teeth are and the procedure you go through (removing teeth, rubberbands, etc). er...yes food gets stuck in your braces easily but it's easy to get them out with your tongue so...

if you're talking about ceramic braces, then i have no idea. O_O

Braces dont hurt alot but they sure are irritating.

I dont think I've lost weight at all [got my braces like 3-4 months ago]..
I actually think I've been eating more because before get them tightened I always eat as much as I can.
You'll still be able to eat some hard stuffs. I think I've been gaining weight from eating alot of ice cream =[!

My teeth are yellow... I hope I'll be able to whiten them when I take my braces off U___U

Getting them sooner is better than later! I was supposed to get my braces last year, but I was chicken and backed out. I finally got mine a few months ago and I'm 15, which means I'll probably get them off when I'm 17. TT___TT *cries* Anyways, your teeth will be sore when you first get braces (it goes away after a few days). But then the pain comes back everytime you get your braces tightened, the pain depends on how high your pain tolerance is, because for me, it wasn't that bad. xD Just make srue you take your tylenol/painkillers biggrin.gif

*hugs* Of course there will be some pain involved since you are forcing your teeth to move, but since your teeth are fairly straight it shouldn't be too bad. Painkillers are your best friend in the first few days. Just don't over do it! Food doesn't get stuck that easily. They will tell you what foods to avoid, but you'll become "skilful" at dislodging stuck food after a while. Haha, sounds weird, but yeah. Just learn to recognise what kind of food gets easily stuck in your braces and maybe carry a small mirror around just in case. Btw, if you get the clear braces you have to wear them for longer since they're are weaker.

Yes, I am talking about the rubber thingies that go around the brackets! smile.gif

I've never heard of ceramic braces before.... are they the ones you can take out anytime?

My experience with braces was that it was painful for the first week after tightening, but you get used to them... until the dentist tightens your braces again! Oh, also be prepared for a lot of cold sores inside your mouth. I actually got used to the pain but I have a very high pain threshold...

I've heard lots of bad things when I was about to get my braces...I was 13 too. I'm still 13 now! laugh.gif Lol, so I got really scared. My brother whined ALL NIGHT LONG and my friend said it was really painful and just as painful every time you tighten them. Well, I really don't know if mine just didn't hurt as much or if I have a high pain tolerance(According to my mom) but it didn't hurt that much. Yeah, there was that annoying ache when I first got it on but I really didn't care for it too much and I didn't use any painkillers. That I know of...Yeah, but it could be my teeth just aren't that bad. I thought they would be since my brother's teeth were some of the most horrible teeth I've seen up close and the dentist said mine was as bad as his. I was suprised when I heard that. I guess his just looked retarded...And mine are bad because I have a huge overbite and buck teeth. Really bad buck teeth, hahaha.

But I got my braces tightened recently, and there's this wire left at the VERY back and it keeps poking me! >.< It already left an automatic hole in my mouth from the constant poking. I tried using the wax but I could put it in. It was too far back so it was hard for me to get into that small place where the wire is.

Alright, well, anyway! If you want my opinion on how it was, don't be too scared. ^^ It doesn't even hurt while they're putting it on.
