Backup the files you want because they will be gone.
If you have a name brand computer, I hope you have the disks it came with.
On a HP at the startup many have an option for recovery. Newer HP/Compaq have it under HP Recovery Manager. I know Dell provides a disk or two... and its about the same for the other brands. Put in the disk, restart and if you can read you're set.
If you lost your disk or your computer doesn't have a brand, you will need to use a Windows XP disk to reinstall windows then search for the hardware you have in your computer... like your sound drivers, video drivers, and network drivers. Again that type is stick in the disk, restart. Sometimes you will need to set the boot order in the BIOS to boot from CD then hard drive to get it to boot off the disk but by default it should be fine.

ohhh ohhh, or you could go to www.ubuntu.com and download Ubuntu, burn it on a disk, restart your computer and install it. It's free!

My quest to make everyone into Firefox users doesn't always work... I dunno how people would change platforms entirely.

I think my friend said it best, Linux allows for a lot of tweaking, what some don't realize, is that the tweaking is required.
