Yeah, the topic title basicly sums it up..

But I'll say it anyways..

Just this year I've been thinking about loosing weight
Not anything major, just a couple of kg, and the first step is to control what you're eating
so I was thinking about dieting and I was telling my mum about this and she totally disagreed

she's like, dieting will stunt growth and you're in your growing stage, if you go on diet you'll look like a stick (as in no boobs or figure etc..)
but my mum's like that, I love her but I think she's exaggerating.. dry.gif
she thinks I'll go anorexic or something cos she's says I have very thin arms (not like my thighs.. haha)
which I do, but they have always been that way, dunno why though
my fore arms are partically thin, thinner than all my friends of the same age -________-;;

But she made me think, I'm 14 right now, do you think that dieting at this age will somehow affect my growth?
Because I really want to grow a little bit more (body figure wise)
and a little taller too (I'm about 165cm right now)

Thanx in advance! ^^

So young o_o;
If you mean dieting by means of reducing your food intake...
Yes it could affect growth if you're not eating the essentials (Go, Grow and Glow foods xD... I know... so elementary but it's helpful)
I think, you're kinda too young to go on a "thinning" diet because you're still developing. Being thin would not help your boobs grow (I'm naturally thin and my boobs are... flat sleep.gif;; my guy classmate has the same boobs size as mine T___T)

I think you should go for eating healthy (not too much and not too little) and exercise... excercise could make your body figure look nice xD

It depends. If you have a diet where you cut out ALL your junk food and only resort to healthy stuff that allows you to have a maximum intake of all your vitamins (like eating from all the food groups) then you won't stunt your growth.

However, if you take those other diets (like Atkins etc etc) if could stunt your growth because you're limiting the amount you eat, therefore limiting the amount of nutrients you're feeding your body.

Regular exercise is good as well like jogging etc. Just don't do a lot of weights - that'll stunt your growth for sure.

stunted growth happens when your body doesnt get enough nutrients to grow...

lots of people could be taller if they didnt eat such fatty greasy things all the time...

so if you eat healthy and exercise, then that's a perfectly fine diet... =)

The question is: do you know how to control what you're eating? Because limiting the amount of food you put into your stomach isn't necessarily the way to losing a few pounds.

I'd say, cut back on junk food, and fast food... but since you're still only 14, you need to keep eating your fruits, veggies, grains and meat. And not to mention drinking milk and getting all your vitamins/other essential nutrients. Exercise regularly too... I heard stretching is good if you want to reach your maximum potential height.

hmmm, are you sure you need to diet?
i mean the criteria for a healthy look is so distorted these days anyone over 100 pounds are dieting and wut not.

and i agree with most people here, if u cut out all your proteins and carbs then yes, it'll afect growth. but if u eat a balanced diet then it'll be fine. but do be careful because it's hard to control and a lot of ppl want the quick way out.

I don't think you need to go on a slimming diet, especially if you're that young

but its never too early to think about changing the way you eat/what you eat to suit a healthier lifestyle and help you grow up strong
(making sure you get enough carbs, protein, calcium, etc)

forget all those atkins, south beach BS

Um.......... yeah....

you're growing, so you shouldn't be dieting in the first place, unless you're really like obese or something.
you should be getting all the nutrients and proteins and crap that you need..
you shouldn't be dieting that young sleep.gif unless your health is like really at risk or something.
which i highly doubt.
PLUR.

don't diet at such a young age.
i did, and i'm not tall. -.- i'm 156 cm.
and i believe i stopped at that age due to dieting.
i admit, i did lose 10 pounds.
but i regret it. i could've grown several more cm

just eat healthy. no need to diet. :]

dieting will definately stunt your growth if you're still in your growing stage. you're 14 and your body probably needs more nutrients than say, a 20-30 year old woman whose already all grown up and matured. Basically, At 14 you're probably still going through puberty so maybe you should wait a year or two before you start dieting. smile.gif

What type of diet were you planning on going on?
There are a lot of fad diets out there that restrict certain foods such as carbs and if you were planning to do that you shouldn't.
If you were to go on those fad diets it would stunt your growth and have adverse effects because you're at such a young age, those diets are unhealthy for anyone.
But, if you were to lose weight by eating healthily and steady exercise that would be the best way to go for anyone of any age.

Take it from someone that HAS stunted their growth from dieting.. T______________T;;

Don't do it! Seriously, I'm so flat now.. But I have an ass.. Haha, but that's genetics.
But my height was 5'3" when I was 14 & started dieting. Not for myself though, I was already 94 lbs.. But for Judo, because my weight class was 90 lbs at the time. That seriously stunted EVERYTHING growing.. ><;;

After I stopped dieting though, I didn't grow much. I'm still an A cup, & I grew half an inch -____-;;

dont try to lose weight so early
it could stop u from growing
as tall as u could be
especially if ur not eating at all

dieting is NOT losing weight
its watching whut u eat
eat healthy but eat alot
dont starve urself
if ur hungry . eat

at your age, you really shouldn't be dieting.
i dieted when i was around 14 also, but it was a pretty serious one.
i didn't necessarily stunt my growth, but my doctor said i should be taller right now.

anyways, you're right about dropping some pounds; it starts with what you eat.
i suggest you just eat healthier. don't skip on meals, eat healthy.

if you just exercise daily, eat stuff that's good for you, i'm sure you'll lose some weight.

it may not come the fastest, but in the end, it's worth it. trust me.

oh yeah, and since you're only 14, growth will definitely affect your weight, you could slim down~

you're still young.. you'd be better off just eating healthy and exercising more.
since you're probably still going through puberty, you'll grow taller and then most likely, your figure will be stretched out a little more n slim down.
