depends if you walk on incline or not
i walk/ run on the tread mill and my calves are small
but i run on incline
so yea a tread mill will give you small calves

yup! because walking works out different muscles than running, so you would get leaner muscles instead of bulking up!

It might help burn the fat on the calves, but it also might help muscle growth in the calves. How noticeable it'll be will depend on many factors, such as your body's ability to burn fat as well as your diet. However, if I had to make a wild prediction, I'd say it'll take you three-four weeks for you to notice a difference (others may notice it better than you do, since you see yourself everyday and cannot notice the subtle change).

Walking for two hours everyday may seem easy to do, but it really isn't. Trust me.. walking may seem easy, but when you've got to do two hours worth of it, you'll want to kill yourself! My suggestion is to save yourself an hour and 40 minutes by just running 20 minutes three times a week instead of walking for two hours a day. Not only will you be saving a lot of time, but you give yourself a schedule that is easy to work with, which is important because you actually want to stick to your workout regimen.

Yeah, I do agree with that. It is pretty fast.

Aren't most treadmills on a speed from 1 to 10? Well.. technically 0.1 to 10.
That's how my treadmill is.
I pretty much run on speeds 3 to 4, by alternating.

I don't really get how you're going to walk a speed of 5.4
Are you powerwalking?

But, yeah. I think you should just jog a few miles instead of walking for 2 hours. It saves you time.

^^^ huh..thats weird, my treadmill's different. 5.4 is walking speed (fast walking), i run on 8, which really isnt that fast. I think my treadmill is inaccurate haha
My pokemon bring all the nerds to the yard, and they're like you wanna trade cards? Darn right, I wanna trade cards, I'll trade this but not my charizard

i think urs is 5.4kilometers/hour
while they are refering to miles......
5.4 km/h is actualli quite slow...try walking at 5.8-6 with a slight incline...ull burn more calories that way smile.gif
n ull tone up ur legs hehe

wow 2 hours is a lot. I used to do that for a week but I went down to 40 minutes a day. It gets hard after a while, but I saw alot of improvements. my calves got a lot skinnier. But I do yoga 1 hour later so maybe that'll help. & I powerwalk at 4.2 mph and it's pretty fast. O_O

yes, your calves will look skinnier over a period of time however, there are more efficient ways of achieving this. if you have enough time to walk 2 hrs daily, my only suggestion to you would be to increase the speed to ~7.5. keep one thing in mind, walking 2 hrs a day becomes tedious and if you dont think you will have the willpower to continue this regime forever, then you might wanna try something else like running.
contrary to popular belief, significant muscle growth does NOT occur when you run. your legs will NOT bulk up if you run daily.

I don't know if this is accurate, because I just noticed it on my sister and never did it myself (shame shame). But yeah, for the past months she has been jogging (not running or walking) for a good 30 minutes every other day (3-4 times a week)...and recently, I have noticed her calves have gotten skinnier and more tone.

I don't know, I don't think that is the only option. I don't know if you have a treadmill or you go to the gym, but I am pretty sure if you ask the trainers at the gym they will show you a specific equipment (or machine) to target your calves or a kind of basic exercise to tone it (very easy, and free tongue.gif).

^ I agree with Ida. 2 hours of walking is unnecessary. I jog for half an hour a day on an elliptical machine (which basically serves the same function as a treadmill, only it's lighter on your kneecaps and burns more calories) and have toned and slimmed my legs this summer. Also, if you increase the incline it will work out areas higher up your leg the higher your incline is (instead of your calf, for example, your thigh, upper thigh, or butt area).

yes, i'm sure. you do not build large amounts of muscle, if any at all, from walking, running, or even sprinting. a lot of people buy into the misconception that hard running equals bulky legs while distance running equals lean legs due to olympic sprinters and long distance runners.
olympic sprinters dont have huge muscular legs because they sprint, they have huge legs because they do massive lower body weight training.
and look at marathon runners. top marathon runners run like at a pace of 12mph! and they have tiny, scrawny looking legs.
