okayy... soo heres the question.. we all know that youre supposed to burn more calories than you take in... so a lot of times i guess we measure how much we work out by counting how many calories we burn on the machines... or at least i do. so. people keep talking about how walking is better than running.. and others say that running is better than walking because is higher impact and you burn more calories in a shorter span of time. im confused and in over my head... can someone clear this up for me?
oh yea.. what do you think about elliptical machines in comparison to the treadmill?

i think that running is better then walking.
It gets your heart pumping faster and your body gets a good workout.
but, i prefer the eliptical over the treadmill, but thats only because i think
that the eliptical is easier to use then the treadmill.
also i burn more calories on the eliptical then i do on the treadmill. but thats just me.
i need to use the treadmill more then i do though.

I think it's because running stresses out your body as much as it burns calories - your joints take a toll, especially if you run hard and for a long duration... On the other hand, power walking is really good because although you don't burn as much calories as you would running, they don't kill your knees... But I emphasize POWER walking since walking slowly won't do you much good (but still better than not doing anything) >_<

i think it really depends. how in shape do you want to get? cause running comes with big legs but burns calories faster. you get some muscles & i mean MUSCLES. i was on a cross country team & my legs blew up, that was like 5 years ago? & they're still in shape and muscley (not nasty muscles, just toned).
as for walking, i think it's much more relaxed but takes more time to burn calories. for example, running 10 minutes burns 100 calories while walking 10 minutes only burns 10 calories, kno wat i mean? but, i hear so many beneficial things about walking. it, supposedly, makes you happier. i think so, i used to walk my dog everyday, rain or shine, & i was really healthy & happy. i hardly got sick & stuff.
in the end, BOTH are VERY healthy. it all depends on what you want for yourself.
i think treadmills and elliptical machines are different. elliptical machines work on your glutious (butt) more than treadmills which work your legs. both burn lots of calories tho! i hope i helped...
