Yeah don't do your homework expect corporal punishment... Come late... expect corporal punishment, just yeah... from my cousins I hear it pretty much sucks =/
Also I don't know if this applies to girls, but for guys, their hair cannot go over a certain length and the teachers used to have the powers to cut it on the spot (although I hear they're eliminating that for the most part)

I am really serious ... there's tons of studying and you'll probably wanna pull your hair out. :X
I have two cousins in korea who are in their first and second yr of high school and they only come home at like midnight
(from hakwon/tutoring)
It's REALLY exhausting & annoying but its the only way that you can go to a good college.
It's less work if you go to a foreign high school though.

You're gonna have to study a lot.. like the others said.
And wear uniforms.. Strict rules on hair length, wearing jewelry, and makeup.

O yeah~ You stay in your classroom and the teachers change. So hopefully you'll be placed in a class where you can make lots of good friends.

I think Seoul got rid of the mandatory afterschool study halls, along with many other cities, but some places still have it. So you're at school until like 1130 PM. It's summer break and my cousin still goes to school everyday to study. He practically lives at 독서실 after school closes.
You should really check with the school first. Some schools have you cut your hair so that it's 3 cm down from your ear. --;; My friend went to 여고 and so she said the atmosphere with the students was really relaxed. Everyone would just wear their gym uniforms all day long and all the girls were really close because there were no guys (to the point where everyone would just fart during class amongst other things). Lots of lesbians in comparison to 남녀공학. So if you arent used to that here...
School year starts march and then you have summer break starting mid/late july until late august. Then winter break january february.

please do not PM me asking me to close threads, etc! i am no longer a mod! ^^ thanks!

Regular Korean school can be pretty tough, seeing how you lived her for a while ...
They probably would give you some grace and some leeway, knowing you came from the States ...
However, I think a foreign school will be better for your future ...

Yeah! not only should you be a REALLYY fluent speaker, but your vocabulary and stuff should be pretty darn good too. Or else you won't have fun there nor will you do well.
I think its MUCH better for korean-americans to go to foreign schools anyways, just cuz someone growing up in america probably won't have as good vocabulary and speaking skills as someone raised in korea.
Like me...I speak korean pretty well but I would NOT survive in regular korean high schools cuz I don't understand really hard vocabulary and other stuff taught there.

go to an international school.
unless you think you can have a deep philosophical conversation in korean
(or in other words, you speak fluent korean and have the vocab & usage understanding)
it's gonna be hard for you straight off the bat
what's corporal punishment?
