Dear Soompiers,

I truly apologize for the lateness of Round 3, however, due to the dwindling of participants, I have decided to boost this contest from Round 3 to Semi-Final Round. Top two of each group will advance to the final round. It seems that many of the participants are busy with their summer so I have decided to make this easier for all of us. I hope you all understand and continue tuning into Soompi Idol for the rest of the contest.

Furthermore, the dancing section of Soompi Idol has finished and its winners will be awarded the during the overall Awards Ceremony held on August 7th.

Technical Skill: 2.5/5 For some reason this clip seemed to lack the energy that i absolutely adored in your previous clips. It sounds like it's just going on without much feeling behind it-- and if there is feeling it's a very false feeling, overcome by something that sounds like tiredness. Everything else is good, but this was hard to listen to because of the lack of conviction behind the delivery.

Song Choice: 3.5/5 This song really does you guys justice vocally-- it's really unfortunate that you couldn't sell the song more.
Overall Performance: 3/5 Energy, conviction, and emotion make a song-- even if everything else like the pitch and the timing are perfect, a song drags and becomes boring without those other elements.

Technical Skill: 3/5 Very good pitch and timing. Perfect diction. But like huggles_jaewon, I'm not feeling the conviction and energy that you had in your prior entries. Very pretty and smooth, though. I hope you get your energy back if you make it to the final round. And wow. That was a short song.

Song Choice: 3/5 You knew it very well, but I think it was too short. It didn't really push your voice to its full potential, I don't think. It didn't floor me like your past performances did, and I think that's a little disappointing-- but hey. You have to pull back a little to wow them at the end, right? I submitted the most terrible second round song in prep for third and fourth rounds last year, so I'm looking forward to what you do if you make it to the next round.

Overall Performance: 3/5 Your energy's lackluster, but everything else sounds great.

Technical Skill: 4/5 You always sound so genuine, and that's why I really love listening to you. Some notes in the verse were shaky, and you were a little flat on your high note in the chorus. Both times. You sounded like you tensed up when you were coming up to it-- if you'd relaxed your throat in anticipation instead, you would've cleared it perfectly. I know you're capable of it. I really liked the energy and the delivery in this though. It's really playful.

Song Choice: 3.5/5 Very nice upbeat song-- it showcased you really very well.

Overall Performance: 3.75/5 You make up for pitchiness with your energy-- and I think more people should learn to balance perfect performance with perfect delivery like you.

Technical Skill: 5/5 Your voice is flawless in this song. I never say things like that, but you got me.

Song Choice: 2/5 The song's not completed-- and there's nothing more terrible for such a pretty voice than to be cut short.

Overall Performance: 3.5/5 Your voice was gorgeous in this song. Perfect performance and perfect delivery-- up untilt the point where it was cut off. Delivery is judged by the handling of phrases and the build of emotion through the entire song-- at least that's how I look at it. A song is, after all, sort of like an actor's monologue: if you cut a monologue short, you can't understand the entire meaning or feel the entire point because there's a piece missing. It's the same for songs, I believe. Songs leave you feeling something when you're through listening-- instead, I'm left feeling nothing because you only gave me half a message. If you make it to the finals, I'd really love to hear a completed song from you.

Huggles_Jaewon: IMO, this sounds really good. However, I'm not done listening to the clip. =D Considering I'm not that good at picking people's singing apart, I can't give much advice. That's the judge's job anyways. Maybe I'm biased because I REALLY like this song. Your mixing sounds pretty good and your voice is good. I think it fits the different parts of this song well. I'm still waiting to hear the rap. lol. *taps foot patiently* AHA! *listens* Very nice! Some parts need just a LITTLE bit more UMPH! All in all, I thought it was pretty good.

xmyheart: I hate it when I don't know the originals of the songs. lol. I don't have anything to compare it to. I'm always amazed how some people can effortlessly reach those random high notes. You hit those very well. Your voice sounds strong and your vibrato is good. All I can say is I wish the clip was longer. ^__^

JiHye: I LOVE THIS SONG! lol. Younha is <333. Emotion is great so far (not done yet! lol). You've definitely got the spunky attitude down that's needed for this song, in my opinion. Your voice is strong and so far I can't find any bad things about it. I love your giggle that's in there a couple of times. lol. I guess this all explains why you're signed to a company (i think?).

Mrs_K: Wow. Amazing voice! Very strong and nice to listen to! I think (not sure) that I can hear you go flat once or twice for a VERY short moment, then you automatically go back to the right note. You did an amazing job with this one, I only wish it was longer.


My vote goes to Huggles_Jaewon. A lot of it had to do with the diversity she showed in her clips. Good job!

I replied when I was listening to JiHye's Codenumber 486. Now I'm listening to Mrs_K and no hard choice. I guess I would say that all four are amazing singers but different voter have a different taste in music, right? The song choice also affect the results. I voted for Mrs_K because of her voice AND her song choice. It fits what I like. Also, I must admit that the other contestants are equally good singers. Keep it up guys!

You have a very very nice tone of voice and good control and its no surprise you are at the semi-finals, although I think you are slightly off/flat during the whole singing part.

I know nothing of Kpop, but I can appreciate any asian songs Very nice tone, control and vibrato.
I feel like the music is overpowering your vocals at some places though. Is it me or the song only lasted 2 minutes ?

I think you know how good you usually sound, and in my opinion, what's good about *this* rendition, is that you've put the effort and time to make it as flawless as possible. From a technical point of vue, there would be some room to increase your range in your chest voice's highest notes. That would make the highest notes sounded a little less strained.

Mrs_K - Look What Love Has Done :
Wow O_o very professional sounding voice and good recording as well. What ?? how come the song lasted only 2 minutes as well ?

Overall. My vote goes to JiHye, who I feel put the effort to win in this group. Huggles_Jaewon was also very good. However, I can't put my vote for only 2 minutes of recording,even if it was allowed. XD.

Well.

As soon as I saw who I was up against, I sort of knew that I was going to have no chance of advancing to the Finals, especially, since only the top two advance.

Which is all right. Ms K and xmyheart are good singers, and I was pleasantly surprised at how well Kiseki sounded.

I'm not going to make it past this round, and that's not all right with me.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not a very selfish person, but this time, just this time, I wanted to advance. Why?

Because I did not do this song alone. Because I'm not the only person that recorded this song.

To be honest, I didn't do much. I just sang.

But David, Hmaster, whatever you want to call him, brought everything alive in what I sent him, and he's the one that I wanted to pass for. I wanted to think that, as a duo, we were good enough.

Lol, but I guess we weren't good enough. And that, in itself, disappoints me. I wanted to advance, for his sake, sort of like a "Thank you so very much, for these past 2-3 years in which you and I worked together." I guess you can say that this was my gift to him. I wanted to send him a PM with a notice saying how I made it to the finals, you know, and just be like "All due to you I made it this far."

Funny, to be honest. The past two rounds, I advanced with stuff I recorded, edited, mixed, and it looks like I'm going down in the round where all I did was sing. Three SIs ago, I was also dropped, when I was tied up with Risse, and the judges decided that they'd go with her, rather than me.

I'm rambling, but I don't know how to say what I want without filling up three pages of nonsense.

It's just...

In my honest opinion, I really think that Ms K as well as xmyheart chose "safe" songs. They didn't really venture out past their "safety zone", going with songs that don't require much, and submitted half-finished. I never do anything half-hearted, never would think of submitting something only half done, especially for a contest, mostly because I feel that doing so would just be irresponsible. Sure, they sound great. But do they REALLY sound great? If I had to vote for this, then I would, no doubt, have gone for Kiseki.

I mean, if I had to lose, then I would have preferred to lose to someone else. I know I'm quite prideful, but I can't help it. I wouldn't have minded losing to Lisa, Onigiri, Sou, Gene, because they would have done everything they could to win (not submitting half-done songs would be a start) and it would feel more like a contest, a fair contest. But it's the fact that I'm not against people like them that I just think is not fair.

For instance, Irulanne. Baby's Tears was actually quite good, and I was astounded to see that people not vote for her. I figured it was because no one knew who she was. I think I was wrong.

I appriciate all the votes that Kiseki/Huggles_Jaewon has recieved~ it means alot to us to be up against such amazing and popular singers, and still get votes. I don't think any of us expected to get this far, I know I sure didn't! Thank you very much to everyone, even if we don't make it to then next round I'm still happy with having been able to take part in the contest this far into it <3

On a different note~ I understand what people have been saying about our clips being a little off time~ and I appologize! We recorded this song and sent it to our mixer, she worked very very hard for us and mixed it in 24 hours to have it ready in time, she also made us the instrumental. It's not perfect but alot of hard work and love was put into it.

I listened to everyone from this round, and I really liked all of the clips. I was a little suprised at how short xmyheart's clip was, but it sounded good none the less. And props to Jihye for singng a Younha song, her voice and style is really hard to match, but you did it and came out on top with it. I liked Mrs_K's song, but I wish she would have gone with a more upbeat song, more attention grabbing I guess? I think at this point in the contest everyone is a good singer, and its more about song choice then anything. Maybe thats just me though x__x; I really liked everyones clips though, like I said, at this point everyone is pretty much just awesome XD

Hey everyone, thanks for your votes! Truth be told, this clip was definitely not a quick clip for us. -___-; When we sang the song, we really enjoyed our first version. When we were about to sing the last chorus, Quartz deleted the entire recording~! We were so frustrated... but we pulled ourselves together and sang it again for the competition! I'm sure everyone else on Soompi who records understands the frustration of when the computer freaks out when you are trying to record... (Or maybe my computer is just crap ) ... I have a feeling we will be putting out a lot of great recordings now that we have a great mixer named Vee. <3

A BIG Thank You goes out to those who voted for me.

As a singer, everyone has their own taste in music and experience in mixing & recording. This is Soompi Idol 5, there are no themes, the rules are all laid out that it's 2 minutes minimum and those who choose to go by...go by it. I record when I get the chance to, it's not like I live by myself and have 489293485728907 hours of recording time, but when I get the chance to, I give my all. Safe songs? No upbeat? Well, I have a few of them in the works, but if you only have one voice on the track without the harmonies, it doesn't sound good. I never thought I was great or a professionalist, I know that I have lots of areas to improve, but to talk down on an another singer is just plain low. Regardless of whomever is going to the next round, we all should encourage eachother to be better, not pout and give reasons why one shouldn't make it to the next round. There's no pot of gold at the end of this rainbow, it's just for experience & improvement.

Huggles_Jaewon: I enjoyed listening to your clip the most- it's an upbeat song and hard to sing AND make it sound good. I vaguely know what the original sounds like so I can't really compare, but it sounds like you were pretty much on key. I really liked the rap, my favorite part. Good job!

xmyheart: I've listened to some of your other stuff and I was kind of diappointed with this. Let's be fair, maybe it was because I wasn't familiar with this song? I don't know, i just know I wasn't really feeling it. Your voice sounded pretty but nothing amazed me.

JiHye: Man I really hate when I don't know the song! This clip sounded really good, the voice, your emotion, the mixing- pretty much everything. The only thing I would suggest is a LITTLE more umph...again, i don't know the song but I know Younha is a pretty big deal and she probably gave a lot more in this song.

Mrs K: You have a pretty voice. Sounded a bit nasally to me though.

My vote is for JiHye. I have always thought she was the singer with the most potential here and her clip was clearly the best in this round.
