Wow Jina! That is one of the longest and great post I have read, I hope some people on Soompi who doesn't like BoA stumple upon your post and reads it. Anyways I had the same situation as you too. Im shy and usually talk very small and when I speak up people think im in a bad mood, sick, or mean when really thats just my nature.

nah i didnt mean it like that, it came out wrong. its like when craig david debuted as a uk garage artist. obviously he had to move on from that stuff but its like he lost his sound. Yea its only been a year but it seems like 2 years. i dunno y. i think its cos her japanese stuff is so boring.
ironically its her japanese material that got me into her and got me learning japanese in the first place. i just dislike how they are turning her into a generic balled singer in japan. And korea her music is fierce, it has atittude and heart. the new mv is good btw. its a shame she didnt make an mv for touch. the dancing woulda be great.

I agree that 2006 has not been a great year for Boa. Many people think that Outgrow was somewhat mediocre, but I don't. The album is a great experimental music work of Boa (i.e. Outgrow, Cosmic eyes, Everlasting, Stay on Gold, and I do like Make a Secret, which is so unliked by many Boa fans). The album itself didn't do good because of many B-side fillers.
Besides, Boa's image in Japan is portrayed totally different from the one in Korea (cute, girl-next-door to tough, rebellious, edgy). I personally hope that Boa would be able to bring that edgy style to Japan in the future.
Well, let's wait and see her 5th Japanese album. Hopefully, we'll know which direction/path Boa will take or is set in her future career in Japan.

ps: Touch is fabulous. It does deserve its own MV. It should have been included in her 6th Korean album.

BoA is huge in Korea. She's always referred to as the "Star of Asia" or the "Fairy of Asia" when they do interviews or segments on her in the news or when she performs on, say, Inki Gayo. Many consider her a legend, and she only just turned 20 this month. She's the youngest person to ever win a Daesang, also. She's always one of the top yearly sellers. She consistently wins awards every year, except possibly this year in Korea because she didn't release anything. She's one of the most respected artists, and many other singers have expressed their awe of her and her accomplishments. Sung Shi Kyung once commented that she did more in four years than other singers have done in ten, or something along those lines. She's one of the starters of Hallyu, and is at the forefront of it now. She's helped spread interest in Korea throughout Asia and to many people outside the continent.

Koreans should be proud of her and the impact she's had. And many are. But some of the younger kiddies get upset that she spends more time there, all the while downloading her albums. Her singles in Japan sometimes sell just as much or more than her full albums in Korea since Korea's album sales are so low. So of course SM pushes her Japanese activities.

As for her lack of participation on game shows, again, she's one of the few stars that doesn't need to go on those to boost her popularity. Everyone knows who she is. Celebrities go on those shows to get their name out there and to gain more fans. She's an established star. Not to mention she's so busy. I would love to see her on X-Man or Love Letter or something because when I see her in interviews or whatever with SM (like for the making of Red Sun) she seems so cute and bubbly. However, it's understandable why she doesn't appear.

There are people who say they've had horrible experiences with her, and there are those who say they've had great experiences. From what I've seen and heard, she seems like a sweet girl. What I think is important for people to remember is that she's human. She gets tired and cranky like the rest of us do. And goodness, think about how tired she must be. She's barely 20 and she hasn't had a decent rest in literally years. There are people always nosing into her business and she has to be so careful with her private life. People will go through changes as they grow up, and I think that's exactly what she's done, nothing else. Maybe she has had surgery, though, who really knows? But either way, does it really make such a difference? Plastic surgery doesn't affect her talents. She's a great singer and dancer, and an incredible overall performer and artist.

And about the number of pages in this thread, I think most Boa fans go to one of her fan sites, such as boajjang.com. Those websites are so on top of everything that pertains to her, and I usually go there to check up on what's going on with her; I very rarely pop in here.

I'm sorry for this huge essay I wrote, but I couldn't help but to put in my 2 cents. This girl always works so hard, and it seems like there are people who are always dissatisfied, especially her Korean fans. I remember when she came out with her Double single; when she lipsynced so she could put everything into her dance her fans complained that she wasn't singing live. And when she performed live her fans complained that they wanted to see her entire choreography. Really, what do they want from her? She's one of the hardest working people I've ever seen, and it seems like it's never enough for some.

I'm not pointing fingers at anyone in this thread, though, so I hope it doesn't seem like I'm doing so. This is just a collection of thoughts that I've formed in the past few years from a lot of different threads and posts and such, and I'm just voicing my opinion here since it seems like a similar conversation is going.

I didn't really like the album Outgrow.. really.
Eh-- The songs didn't really stick to me unlike all her other great songs.
But she has nice ballads this year... personally, I like Everlasting and Winter Love.
Candle Light's doesn't sound bad, I love it.

Though I still think that she has to come back to Korea before her anti-fans start making a fuss about it again. Like I said on my other post, she's just waiting for her Arena Tour to be done before she gets her acting career started. And I am positive, that she would act in Korea. (Best place for dramas and movies would be Korea!! XD XD )

I'll try to stalk meet her in Japan when I go there this summer and find out if she's really.. ehh.. you know.. err rude/arrogant or whatsoever (as the [sarcasm]intellegent-people-who-obviously-thought-about-it[/sarcasm] said so. XD

I lurk around here quite a bit... I don't usually post here because I just post over at BoAJjang. I came across this and it was so cute, even though I didn't understand ANYTHING that was said. Donghae talked about BoA on Suju Kiss the Radio. I think he says something about things that happened while filming the MV and stuff. Maybe...someone can translate?

I just want to add on to the posts before commenting on the type of person fans seem to think BoA is. MAYBE those cases were true, but they were all from a few years ago. In the recent clips of her during interviews, she seems like such a sweet girl. All the news about her giving Yunho the better seat on the plane while he was injured, and the stuff other celebs say about her (Dana has mentioned on the radio that although BoA has lots of charisma on stage, she has lots and lots of aegyo (cuteness, charm) off stage). Even in that one English interview she had, the guy interviewing her said that she was quiet and shy at first, but warmed up and became such a nice and funny girl after a while. Before you don't really hear about her being friends with different celebs, but recently more and more celebs are coming out and talking about their friendship with her (Dana, DBSK, Hyolee, Heechul, etc etc). If she was really that hard to get along with and so mean, snobby, whatever else they say she is, she wouldn't have so many friends. As her fans, we spend more time watching her and reading things about her, so we know she's blunt and straightforward, and we also see the dorky, cute side of her. People who read those "meeting" stories in that thread and believe it don't usually follow BoA that closely. If you only read the bad encounters, of course she's not gonna seem so nice. It just bugs me when people don't see both sides to the story. Ew, this reply is everywhere and so grammatically ugly and long. Sorry. I originally just wanted to share that radio clip, but I started replying to that subject... Sorry for bringing it back up again.

I have more to say, sorry T_T. But all this stuff about her "forgetting her roots" and leaving Korea for Japan is all bs, IMO. Didn't she mention in an interview once that when she's in Japan, all she thinks about is when she will get to go HOME (Korea)? Even when she goes on the Japanese talk shows, the hosts always ask her to teach them some Korean and ask about her life in Korea. At her concerts, at the very end when they show a "thank you" message on the screen, there's ALWAYS a Korean blurb at the end. When she says "thank you" at her tours, she always says it in both Japanese and Korean. I seriously don't see how she's forgetting that she's Korean. It's not even her choice to stay in Japan.

i loove boa...and until there's some personal issues that i dislike about her...i won't be persuaded by rumors. and true fans should also think like that. i don't want to pour all my thoughts out becuase it'd be a novel, so i guess my point is that she's a legend and she's worked hard for that...so don't discredit her of her achievements through irrelevant issues.

Anyway, I'm glad that you mentioned Winter Love (for some reasons, I completely forgot about this single when typing my previous post). After Key of Heart slump, Winter Love helps to redeems Boa's sucess in some ways, and I love every single songs in this single (even her Last Christmas rendition). Also, I have Candle Lights as my phone's ringtone right now
