Lets say if I want to match my factory paint and have it painted with factory quality, my car would run (for a complete repaint), roughly $3000-3500... this is for a 4 door mid-size sedan and with pearl siver paints (which costs more).

With that price they'd sand down the whole car for you and fix all the dents (basically all the prep work) before painting right? And how many coats of paint do they put on for a 3.5k job? blink.gif

I remember a year or two ago, when I was in a accident (which crumpled my hood), and I was asking a pretty reputible shop on how much it would cost for a repaint for the whole car... just out of curiosity. He quoted $3-3.5K, one to sand down the car, and try to match the factory the colors (which is unlikely anyways, and why since the car is getting sanded down?), because the color I had on my car involved some pretty darn expensive paints, and the guy is also a Volvo buff (which a Volvo shop recommended me to this guy), and insisted to do a factory quality job of seven coats! This included all the prep work to fix my dents and dings too...

I was already turned off pretty badly when he quoted $600 just for the hood repaint, which would require some color matching, because my car's paint has faded in the 12 years it been around, (its more greyish than silver). In the ended he gave me a free spray painting of the black primered hood that I had him installed... which wasn't so bad...

I eventually landed myself back into his shop, a few months later, when some d*** kids keyed the hell out of my car, literally down to the metal and these were some crazy deep scratches... and quoted the damage of the entire driver side doors, fender and rear quarter panel to be $1500...

In the end I left the keyed scratch there and touchup painted it to prevent rusting, and learned that top notch paint jobs are crazy expensive... or perhaps it was that shop (which the cars there that just got repainted looked fantastic).

Currently I still have to get my hood painted, as spray paint over primer isn't really paint (hence it will rust).

Wow thats some crazy stuff. But I would rather spend the money on a quality job with ppl dedicated to making your car look nice than some crappy shop. I took my car to get it repainted cuz it was an ugly green color at first. I had a shop paint it metallic black, and for the 1st few months it was pretty good looking, but then the paint started to slowly chip in small places. The amount of money I spent on touch up paint...ugh.. I wish I had a few grand to just get the job done right. But oh well, my car's getting old so its not really worth it anymore.

Depending on who paints your car is how many coats you get. A friend of mine paid $3000 and got 3-4 coats of paint and 7-9 coats of clearcoat the whole car (inside and out).

$3500 is the worth of my car...

At that rate, i'm better off looking through junkyards and ebay for matching color body panels... it would be so cheaper... I'm already comtemplating looking for a used hood that matches my car... because its still cheaper than a paint job.

What car do you drive?

Anyway, for a GOOD job, you're looking at anywhere around 2000-4000. Custom paints are usually a lot more smile.gif
