Not much of a "debate" if you can't support/defend your claims. TS, you don't even provide any reasons or explanations for your decision.

I'm going to stick with a Windows PC for the clear fact of compatibility and third party support. Not to mention, it's cheap and easy to upgrade.

Of course there are many pros and cons for both, but I think the PC wins out in the end. Why?

Because...
1) Have you ever seen a gamer with a Mac? There are HARDLY any games that come out for Mac. Why? Because so many people have PCs. Bigger market with PCs.
2) Ever try to upgrade a Mac? Yea, I didn't think so.
3) Macs are ridiculously overpriced. I can make a computer with 2x the specs of the ones in the Mac and it'll still be cheaper in the end.
4) MANY peripherals (i.e. wireless keyboards/mice, etc) are compatible with PCs and few are with Macs.

Windows wins overall.

Mac is for show.
We all wear masks. Everyone, everyday... sometimes we wear them so much, we forget who we really are. And sometimes if we're lucky, someone comes along and shows us who we really want to be, who we should be.

Tumblrrr.

The debate lost significance because one can easily get an apple and run windows with it. Heck you can even virtualize XP in apple. It works the other way with PCs running OSX as well.. but thats technically not legal.

My uni is full of Mac users [more or less because we get discounts on it]. I still prefer PC because it's easier to upgrade , and cheaper. I've considered Mac but it's just because it looks nice. I thought about all the programs I needed to get and decided otherwise.

Ok, but what would be the point of buying a mac just to dual boot? It would certainly be more cost efficient to buy a PC.

I've been using a PC up until I got a Mac last year. The only reason I got the Mac, was for video editing, it took some time to get use to, but then I ended up also getting a PC, since I was so use to it and all the programs I had were only compatible with a PC. So I neglected my Mac for some time, and now I'm thinking about completely moving everything to Mac.

I'd prefer the PC over the Mac for various reasons that have been mentioned above, but since it fits my needs over the PC, I'm sticking with it.

-But I'm still holding onto my PC laptop =D

The point is that Macs are now compatible with softwares that OS X does not run.
OS X is and still will be the primary operating system.
Definitely not "just to dual boot".

I will be using Macbook Pro for my primary usage and run Windows mostly just for gaming.

I'd prefer MAC over PC only because MAC doesn't have viruses. -0- But generally, I'm on PC all the way. Though a MAC is tempting and sooo pretty, I don't think I can switch. xD Plus, I heard clubbox doesn't work on MAC! tears.gif

OMGOSH! i just typed a massive forums reply here and my pc FROZE!!! gah~~~ well heres the main jist of it:

i use a ibm thinkpad t60 and macbook pro 17" at home. so i know what its like on both sides of the grass. mac is greener for me, and here's why:

mac's have more value for money: in terms software wise. buying an apple with drive your dollar further compared to a windows pc. think of it this way, when you have to buy a windows pc you will most likely need to buy the microsoft office suite as well (because lets face it, openoffice doesnt stand up to ms word and nor does wordpad, ESPECIALLY wordpad P:), you will also need to download a pdf viewer and buy photo editing software SHOULD you choose to edit photos. this is not the case with mac, although it does not come with microsoft office, it does come with things like a pdf viewer built in, iWork and iLife. iWork includes a word processor and presentation making software which is quite good, better than wordpad anyway! photoediting, movie making and making your own music compilations is easy as well with things like garageband, iphoto and imovie - ALL included with the purchase of your mac.

cost of ownership: the cost of ownership for an apple macintosh is significantly lower than its windows counterparts. this is because the operating software and hardware are from the same company. therefore it is easier for them to provide support and hardware should something go wrong. they know how to make software that is suited to THEIR hardware. compare this to windows, which has a million vendors making hardware for their operating system - more drivers need to be made. ALSO, because of this, it would be harder to replace parts and possibly more costly.

one version - not five: mac os x only comes released in one version, this one version have everything you would most likely want. compare this to windows vista which comes in five versions: home basic, home premium, business, ultimate, and enterprise (GENERALLY not available to the public, but volume licence customers). having five versions only adds confusion to the consumer. im not sure if you havent noticed, but the price of mac os x is actually cheaper than the price of windows vista home basic as well! i understood the reasoning behind two versions of home and professional, but five?!?! c'mon!

breathtaking and innovate design: apple has won numerous industry awards for their computer design, their macbook in this case is less than an inch tall. need i say more?

pratically NO viruses: yes you read right! on a mac, there are no viruses as of this date that do significant harm to your mac. compared to windows this is amazing. i know plenty of mac users which do not use antivirus software and they get by fine! why are there no viruses for mac? lets put it this way: a virus is a piece of software right? and for software to run certain system requirements need to be met. operating system is one of them. because windows market share is significantly more than mac's most viruses are made for windows then and will have no effect (infact that wont be able to run) on a mac system when received thru, lets say an email, or any other means.

user friendly: recently, my parents asked me to teach them and some of their friends the in's and out's of windows. this included simple tasks that me and you take for granted (things like importing songs, optimizing your computer, setting your homepage, basic microsoft office and basic windows). so i did just that, i set up a data projector, hooked up my pc and used got dad to borrow a few company notebooks (standarized operating environment - easier to teach) and attempted teaching these people left behind from the days of windows 3.1 and 95 how to use windows xp and vista, i went through slowly, and did repetitive teaching. but when it came down to them doing the tasks i taught them without my guidance in the time we had, they couldn't do it without refering to the user manual, spending a long time trying to find something or asking a question. while they were doing this i was playing around with photobooth on my mac, one of them saw this and asked if they could try using my computer, so i let them. immediately, they just clicked into using it and had no problem performing the same tasks. something about mac os x just made it easier for them to use. in conclusion, mac's have less of a learning curve compared to windows. why? i dont know =\\.

software compatibility: mac's run MOST software that would run on a windows pc. things like the microsoft office suite, google earth, msn messenger, photoshop and MANY more work perfectly fine in mac's. the file formats are also the same used in windows. most companies will publish their defacto standard software for mac so you shouldn't really run into problems here unless your using something really different.

no blue screen of death: how many of you have run into the blue screen of death OR have had windows freeze on you completly while you were doing work or a beloved assignment (beloved *cough*)??? i know i sure have, and i would assume you too! infact windows froze on me 2 times during my computer session tonight (one while in photoshop and another while clicking "add reply") and my ibm is considered top notch! the mac operating system is quite stable that you will pratically never run into the blue screen of death here. but for windows users: SAVE YOUR WORK REGULARY!

programming rules: apple (i think it is) has set certain guidlines on how software is designed for its operating system. one good example of this is seen at when you close something and a save prompt comes up. in windows, you get things like "Yes", "No" and "Cancel" which can easily cause someone to click the wrong button. in mac, this is not the case. a mac save dialog word's differently with the actions that will be performed to avoid confusion: "Don't Save", "Save" and "Cancel". the safe buttons (save and cancel) are positioned away from the unsafe buttons (don't save) by AT LEAST 25 pixels with the safe option highlighted. making sure you dont have an accident =]].

there ARE some disadvantages though:

minimalism has a cost: although something like an iMac will save alot of space with everything integrated compared to having two components (cpu, monitor) imagine what would happen if the display broke. because its an integrated unit (that is the monitor and cpu are one), then you would have to send the WHOLE computer back for servicing which could cost a pretty penny. it's worse if the iMac is out of warranty.

ergonomics sacrificed for design: the apple mighty mouse may look awsome, sleek and stylish with two buttons integrated into one shell but just imagine using the computer for prelonged periods. its not good in terms of ergonmics especially from a health a point of view. whats even more annoying is the size of the scroll wheel. ive had times when ive used the mighty mouse where ive activated the right button when i meant to activate the left.

sorting and categorization in os x: the way os x categorizes files in finder is quite unconventional - icons placed all over the place. although there is a option to get around it (control+click > Show View Options) it still does not sort things as efficently compared to windows.

less software support compared to windows: contradicts my positive point about BUT when it does happen to you its a bummer. autocad is a good example. i need to run bootcamp just to boot into windows on my macbook to run it.

i still like the mac though =]]. questions, rebuttal, contradictions, false info. feel free to take me on!

You are asking which is better by calling this a "debate." People don't "debate" over preferences. More clarity for better answers.

iWork is a 30 day trial not free. While it may be suitable for turning in highschool assignments, in college we use Microsoft Office. period.
Software wise it is not cheaper because when you go to buy actual MAC software, I guarantee you its PC counterpart's version will be a lot cheaper.

With the mass availability of parts for PC's not only do you have many options to upgrade but also the benefit of lower prices.

Finally there is one thing that PC users can do that Mac users can't:
