My brother's friends 2007 wrx broke just a few days ago. We have the same car but different color. When the dealership dude came to pick up the car he laughed and said, "man I've seen this car all week." Does that mean my transmission is not reliable? It gets me worried. plus he wanted to know if an STI tranny can fit into the WRX. Does anybody know?

It won't break if u don't abuse it. Just remember that when you or your brother's friend wants to have a little fun in the wrx. Trannies are expensive to replace. Your brother's friend is lucky if the dealership will fix or replace the tranny if it has been abused.
Sti tranny will fit. It'll just cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $4k-6k. Good luck finding one.
Most resort to using STI RA gearsets (thicker and possibly cryo-treated) but they'll still break if u abuse it too much.
Read up on this thread for more info on wrx trannys:

I don't know how I missed this one...but I'll give it a shot.
I bet you dumped the clutch didn't you?
The transmission isn't the problem. (and yes the STi transmission will work with the WRX but you will also need the R180 differential where as your car came with the R160.) Far as interchangeability is concerned. Think of it this way. It's Subaru gift to Honda kids. What the B-series was to Honda is to EJ-series to Subaru. The only thing is you can not change ~08 WRX with 05-08 STi wheels due to the lug patterns are different.
and I failed for not even seeing this old decrepit thread...
