During Senior year I applied to a few scholarships and I got around three or four. The amount adds up to around 3,500 dollars. I had to report the amount to my college that I go to because the companies that award these scholarships sends them straight to my college. Since my college updates our financial aid information constantly, I received a email a few days ago that stated that there was a change to my financial aid. My financial aid got some-what deducted and I lost my work study. But i DID notice that the deduction was done according to the amount of scholarship I received. Basically, they deducted from my financial aid is 3,500 . so it equals out if i didn't get any scholarships. So college students out there. How do you guys deal with this. and do you encourage people to apply for more scholarship? or is this a situation that happens at your school. advice would be greatly appreciated.

and i hope no one started this topic before.

the scholarships cover your work study. WORK STUDY means you have to work while you are still at school. by getting rid of your work study, you need to work anymore to get that money. you can still work and get more money, but you are already guaranteed to get the "work study" money. with your scholarships, you do not have to loan that much money. in other words, you ll wont be that much in debt when you are done with school.

this was my situation. i had a few scholarships. before the scholarships were calculated in my financial aid, i had to borrow 3 thousand plus work study. after it was calculated, i only needed to borrow 1 thousand and no work study.

there is also a situation where you might have too much money and they take away your scholarship. if that happens, just accept all your loans. and when the financial aid is totaled, the scholarship will cover your loans. you ll just get more free money.

you know after the financial aid is done paying off your tuition fees and what not, they send you the rest so that you can spend on whatever you want?

it depends on the school. some are generous, some are stingy.

last year i had a hospital scholarship for 1500 and USC took it off of my loans.

that's too bad..

next time, if you don't care about work study, just don't apply again.

work study is sometimes just a place to go and do your HW (and get constantly bugged by peers)

some scholarships do not send the info to the school, so it's good to get these, since they dont' deduct anything

yea, since everyone explain it not much for me to say
but you're really lucky, because it doesn't also take off work study but some
of your loans you get, so that means by the end of the year you'll be paying off less
loans than you were suppose to, which is easier for you in the future.

Oh yeah, I have that also. -_____-" My sister told me that IF the scholarship goes TO your TUITION, then they deduct your money for tuition.. (Sigh) my school grant went from 5 Grand to 4 to 3 grand. how sad.. and my loan is still 5800 (It was 6300 before.) I find that A LOT since I DO NOT work at all. I work hard just to make that loan go down and it never did one bit!!!!! >(

dont worry about it, even if you dont have work study i'm sure you can find a job around campus that pays about the same and make the same money there you would if you did work study. I know some of my friends who's work study wasnt enough, they just got a job at a local mall or something to make extra cash.
